Damn it. Damn it all. Your body refuses to respond.
So, you take matters into your own hands. You begin shifting it, distorting it with you powers. Your form shifts and fluctuates wildly, changing in both volume and mass. The eyes screech in protest, trying to stop you, trying to regain their stranglehold on your body. But it's futile. Your head explodes into shapeless grasping tendrils, manually moving them with your powers you reach them into whatever plane of existence your assailant resides in, constricting it, grasping it. Then, you yank. Hard.
Everyone see what happens next. Random scattered ideas that are not your own sprays out of you like gore from a gunshot wound. Nestled in their very center is something that defies all description, save for the five eyes bearing burning glares. Glares that seem to burn into the very minds of all who meet them. The eyes close and the Nightmare dissipates.
In the brief moment it takes for your head to reform, for the tentacles to coil back and become a face once more, you see something. You see those five-eyed Nightmares everywhere, tailing everyone. The other Nightmares. Your companions. Even each other. Each hovering just out of sight, just out of reach. Seen only as faint blurs of motion in peripheral vision. If they're lucky. Then the image is gone.
On the bright side, your body seems to have gone back to normal, so there's that at least. Fortunately, one of the effects of those attacks is that overloads won't happen when fighting them off. So instead of continuing your gradual decline into Socially-Adjusted Xan, you just lose another stability point.
[[You have lost a stability point.]]"Yeah, yeah, I understand. Well, if I'm gonna find my way outta here, i should probably find some people who could help me. And, to be honest, the people I came with.... weren't the most competent bunch. They were as bad as me. So, would you know any way to the headquarters of this... Resistance, place? I think I'm gonna go there first, it's the only real lead I have, aside from all these random business cards, and this weird keychain. Before I go, could ysou spare any medical supplies? God knows how much I'll need 'em."
"Wait, there were other people with you? Do you know what their powers are? Curfew isn't much of a Resistance sadly, and no, we don't have an HQ. That'd be too big of a target. Medical supplies I can give, so just painkillers and bandages? Or have you something else in mind?"
She grins wryly.
"Such as whiskey."
Her attempt at lightening the mood ends in dismal failure.
"Oh and could you show me that key?"
I walk in.
"Hello? I have a keychain, I assume I have a room here?"
Unfortunately the
hashtag is perfectly solid. Lovely.
