Another one comes, this one from the other side of the bridge and heading opposite your direction. Its mouthpiece is raised. The others remain where they are, seemingly oblivious to the actions of their kin. They're close enough now that you can hear the sounds of their inner workings. The chittering in a set tempo, like clockwork. The pneumatic hisses that resemble asphyxiated breaths.

It curtly responds to your polite question. Which is to say its proboscis erupts forth in an attempt to skewer you like the word's least appetizing shish kebab. Of course, seeing as everyone here was already half-expecting hostilities, you easily dodge to the side on reflex alone while drawing a bead on the entity that is literally right in front of you with no cover. The other one begins to aim its mouthpiece, preparing to make an attempt of its own.
