Colonial Gods [IC]

OOC

Turn 0: Landfall

It has been eight months since the fleet left the grandness of the Old World and began the long journey to the ends of the earth, their new home. With most days spent on the sea, with occasional stops for supplies, the mortals on board have predictably become quite bored and at least a quarter of the colonial fleet (which is to say three vessels) have been lost. Thankfully, the rest have survived, ready to provide their patron gods with sweet, sweet essence...if they can be convinced, that is.

The patrons of the colony are a mixed bunch of reconstituted mortals and natural immortals who have had the misfortune of being here, in a land inhabited by demons and savages. Without further ado, they are:

Tuerrot, The Auditor of Death
Rénadh, The Mandate's Keeper
Venlan, The Tattered Scholar
Talon, The Eternal Axe
Ylagi, The Guardian of Revel
Mordric, The Shadow Jester
Wood Opal, The Divine Sower
Ged, The Stout Patron
Nogis, The Tattooed Hunter

...Of course before these aspiring gods and goddesses get on their high horse and start ordering their followers to fight in divine war and sacrifice their cows, they must first choose the location of their new colony. The scouts have determined three sites that hold some promise:

Site A: A serene grassland around a deep water bay. Fish seem plentiful in the area and there is a river flowing nearby. The surrounding land seems workable.
Site B: A small island off the coast of the continent, this site is lacking in space and it would be necessary to expand onto the mainland in time. It provides a good defensive position, however.
Site C: A piece of stable land surrounded by swamp, it is difficult to enter by sea.

The Mortals will agree with whatever decision the gods make but if no consensus is reached, they will choose one of their own accord.

Tuerrot: There seems to be a logical choice here. This area is teeming with life and could possibly hold everything we would want as the foundation for a new colony. I endorse site A as well.

Mordric struts about on the mast of of the ship he rides, looking off at the sites to choose from. With a clap of his hands he leans precariously downward as he calls out to the other gods

"I agree! It sure seems like an obvious winner! Hah!"

Wood Opal sounds relieved. "Oh good! I was worried everyone would want to do something weird. Plenty of food and a good port sound lovely!"

I do believe we have a majority. Tuerrot grinned, which as he is a death god and, ergo, mostly skeletal, is unnerving to look upon. Which brings up an interesting issue that we should address.Governance of this colony, what system should we use? Is a simple majority enough? Or a two thirds majority? What do you all think?

Talon glances at the options, growling, and speaks in a boomin voice. "This is a hostile land, full of savages and demons! We cannot build on the mainland without a staging ground out on the sea, or we will be forced off the beachhead. B is the only sane choice."

Now that you mention it, this land is potentially hostile and completely unknown. Perhaps building upon the island is not such a bad idea after all. And the mainland spot will always be there if we want to expand to it later. Talon has won my vote via the force of argument. I hereby change my endorsement to Site B.

I too think a single elected official may be a bit over the top. I was just wondering if we wanted to agree on a system for solving disputes before any such disputes arise. That way when they come about, we have a way to address them.

"Ah... Both your worries are simply unnecessary! Are we not gods?! We can handle the dangers of this lands, island or no island! Besides, disputes are the the most fun we can have in this new land!"

"Also, ah, how does being on an island help us? It's not like the beasties will go away just because we ran out of space first. We should really settle in those nice fertile fields with the tasty fish and welcoming harbor."

Venlan stood facing his fellow outcast 'Gods', but his focus was entirely on the book in his right hand as he would occasionally flip the page as the other gods talked among themselves about where best to colonize and the idiotic idea of establishing a form of governance before a state had been formed to govern. With a sigh Venlan closed the book causing a resounding snap to echo out followed swiftly by his voice, carefully measured in a neutral tone.

"The idea of a governing body is far from necessary at the moment, it would benefit us all to do as we wish, but work together should a threat arise to whatever poor excuse for a colony ends up being built out here in what is essentially the middle of nowhere. As for the topic of where to direct the colonists, the answer is quite obvious. The island is the best place to set up our colonists when you consider the fact that this land is extremely hostile and, in the case any of you forgot, also filled with cannibals who have been known to eat 'Gods' such as ourselves who I would dare say were a fair deal stronger than us outcasts.

Your downfall awaits you when you underestimate the threats around you, and it would appear several of us are quite set on underestimating the dangers of this land."

Voting for Site B.
