A Game of Gods (OOC)
« on: January 31, 2016, 01:13:15 am »

You are a god, a being of immense divine potential and prowess. You and your fellow gods have just spontaneously manifested from the natural ebb and flow of the divine energy of the universe. You descend upon a world, primal and strange. It is here you will carry out your divine work, whether it is for good or for evil, here it shall come to pass. You are young, powerful, and ready to set about your godly agenda.

This game has three simple stats.
Essence: This is your life force. One essence can be turned into two Divinity. The only way to regenerate one essence is to "skip" a turn. No other action may be taken that turn.
Divinity: This is what you use to do divine acts. Natural disasters, creation, whatever, this is what allows you to do this. You get one per turn.
Religion: This comes from those who follow you. Using Religion you can influence the actions of mortals, making them your champion in the physical world.

Each god begins the game with an avatar. This is your physical representation in the world. It is bound by physical laws, but beyond that it serves as a proxy for your divine power. It is a physical being, and like all physical beings, can die.

This world is far from empty and already has many species, mortal races, and monsters inhabiting it. Discovering these and guiding your people through the challenges and opportunities they pose is part of the game.

Costs Page

This is a quick guide on how much things cost. Prices may change if you add on special things. For example: creation of a sword via divine magic would cost 1 D. However if you wanted that sword to constantly be emitting flames, that would cost 2 D. Price check things if you want something specific.

Minor divine action: 1-2 D. This is creating a small object/artifact or taking an action that requires some magic.
Major divine action: 2-4 D. Causing natural disasters, reshaping landscapes, and general godly things are here.
Creation: Varies. What you create determines the costs. Less complex/sentient creatures will cost less.
Blessing: Varies. You give a mortal some powers. The power given determines the cost.

Appoint a priest/religious figure: 1W. This priest will spread the word of you faith and try to make your followers happier and more aware of your will.
Appoint a high priest/ top religious figure: 5 W. This mortal will act as your liaison to the mortals and keeper of the faith. They will attempt to shepard the masses into your divine footsteps.
Appoint cleric/ the equivalent: 2 W. This mortal will take up the divine sword and work to rid the world of evil (as determined by you).
Appoint paladin: 4 W. This mortal is gripped by devotion and emboldened by his faith. Works to rid the world of evil.
Appoint champion: Varies. You have picked this mortal for a divine purpose and blessed them with a minor power.

Reserving is a thing. Just be timely about editing in your sheet. Ya know, within a day or so, but like after two days I'm gonna think you lost interest or something.

God/Avatar name: Nix
Physical Description: A large metallic orb surrounded by a floating circle of fireballs.  In each fireball one can see shapes moving as if creating a story, although what is seen is always dependent on the viewer.
Personality/Desires Description: A creature of intense curiosity, Nix seeks to use its considerable divine potency to affect reality not out of any desire for control or power, but to simply see what is and what could be.  In a universe of deities, mortals, questions and meaninglessness, Nix seeks to understand the pattern behind existence, and in doing so prefers to simply set things in motion, or if interference is required, to cause as much chaos as possible in order to create as many possibilities.

Character sheet:
God/Avatar name: Writhing Refracted Spark In The Dark Of The Unwhole Heart
Physical Description: A translucent light blue humanoid with a shifting crimson core. Her torso resembles rough carapace, while her limbs look like fused tentacles. Her head is clearly alien.
Personality/Desires Description: Heart (she readily goes by abbreviations of her full and proper name) desires wealth and finery befitting her station. Precious gemstones, magical power, numerous servants... but above all, potent wills. The most precious of jewels, the very pinnacle of the universe; the implacable hunger that drives creatures to their goals at any and every cost. Will is everything; a creature with no will is a tool or decoration, and not a good one at that. A creature of pure will can move mountains and shatter empires. It is this she seeks and this she fosters, encouraging those who cannot rest without that which they cannot have.

Unsure how the god-avatar thing works, but if I can get away with it, I'd like to have that avatar be some random member of the world who had the god's consciousness and power suddenly cram into them.
If not, happy to remake the character sheet.

God/Avatar Name: Morius
Physical description: A tall figure enveloped in a black cloak, the god, or avatar whilst channeling the power of the god, has no discernable features and appears as empty black space beneath the hood.
The avatar when roaming normally appears as a standard member of his race, and has an affable demeanor.
Personality: Morius is the harbinger of lost souls, and bringer of death. Just as the titular grim reaper, it fulfills its duties implacably and relentlessly. However, as death is a foregone conclusion, it is content to normally sit back and enjoys the struggles of the average mortal to survive, seeing this struggle as a part of its worship. Because of this, it is worshipped by assassins as much as physicians, although any whose job involves killing find that a shrine in the workplace, barracks or hunting lodge helps the blade cut cleaner. Other than that, only a few average citizens may stop by the temple to impeach for someone's time to be extended or shortened.
Morius takes a special interest in 'survivors against the odds' and those who would attempt immortality, seeing itself as the gatekeeper between the mortal races and the thwarting of natural order. Whether through luck, skill or divine intervention, those who continually survive against challenges which should claim them will eventually find their luck run sour as Morius turns its gaze upon them.

God/Avatar name: Petnieka of the Terra Incognito
Physical Description: Petnieka's appearance is not a constant one; one can never truly know for sure what she's going to look like the next time they see her, until they do. She takes on the appearance of a human woman, in explorer's gear and of constantly shifting appearance (one time you see her pale and redhaired, the next time dusky and dark), an exotic animal, perhaps of a species not yet discovered or only glimpsed, or something in between -- she is known to often take the form of a human with some animal features. It all largely depends on her whims. The one thing that always identifies her, at least in human form, is the golden and impossibly elegantly carved spyglass she keeps at her hip.
Personality/Desires Description: Petnieka desires more than anything to watch and aid mortals in their discovery of new things: exploration is her purpose, plain and simple, and she has every intention of using her divinity to further this task. She is a cheerful and eager deity, quite happy to get along with both other gods and mortals and to do her work. That said, she also gets quite a bit of pleasure out of being coy and mysterious, and it takes a LOT of doing to get her to come out and say anything directly... which can be annoying as she is very much not above leaving little secrets and annoyances for the other gods to discover and investigate: why should gods be free from the joy of exploration?

Everyone looks good so far. We only need one more and then we can start.

Someone asked about the god/avatar thing. Here's a little better explanation:

You are a god, ethereal and without form. A grand being of energy and divinity. Mortals are mortal. They are made of strife, emotions, hope, and meat. In your true form, you are unknowable to the mortals because you have no form and no voice. To rectify that, you create a body for you to walk the mortal world. You squeeze some of your energy and your vast vast consciousness into one physical thing and from there you can interact with the mortal world.

So really you are playing as the avatar, but the avatar is only what you have chosen to look like to the mortals.

God/Avatar name: Itheos the Lord of Order
Physical Description: When Itheos appears it generally does so as an impossible large member of the race of the viewer. It is clad in incredibly thick steel armor heavily decorated with the symbols of kingdoms and cities that worship him, if the viewer is a worshiper of Itheos then the viewers own symbol or flag is the most predominant among them. Where the gods body does show though its armor it's features take on the gender of the legally highest ranking person in the society of the viewer (IE, if the viewer was in a kingdom Itheos would be male, if in a queendom Itheos would be female) irrespective of actual political power and it's flesh is made of polished metal. Itheos right hand clutches and lifts an oversized steel judges gavel, and his left hand holds an undecorated scepter. Gigantic wings of steel jut from it's back. (I'll leave if magical flight falls within being the proxy of a god, if so then Itheos can fly and if not then it can't, because obviously its wings, although large, are not nearly enough to carry it's weight.)

Personality/Desires Description: Itheos is the lord of order and the god of civilization. It desires for mortals to build up cities, kingdoms, and empires, bonus points if they are in Itheos name. It desires it's followers to creature structured and ordered and productive societies that follow the rule of law before all else. Although Itheos gives its blessings to both benevolent paladin style kingdoms and brutal repressive dictatorships, it does somewhat favor the former all else being equal, even if just because they tend to be more stable and orderly on a personal level (a person being tortured to death is after all, not a productive and structured member of society). Itheos ultiamte desire is to bring the mortal races into a single large society, a globally spanning empire of law and order to tame the disordered world and bring fourth a new era of order and stability.

Possibly. Certainly personality wise. Their goals don't necessarily have to conflict. Progress can be done in a orderly and lawful fashion. Itheos would even (Selfishly of course) argue that that is the only way for lasting progress. (What use is a sage of Petnieka who invents a steam engine then dies in obscurity in some random corner of the world that will probably not last long enough to put the knowledge to good use anyway. Come, bring it to the cities of Itheos and see your inventions brought to their true potential, tamed and put to work for the good of civilization...) Or it could go terribly. Depending on how we play our gods. If Itheos becomes a force for stagnation, or Petnieka becomes pure chaotic experimentation without view for what will happen, ether one could certainly cause conflict.

Edit: In the end I could see us as ether dire enemies with world spanning conflicts, or as uncomfortable neighbors in the same pantheon.
