(it's not the height that matters, it's the takeoff. a moving object on the horizon is going to be much more noticeable. and since they have to pass the horizon in order to get above anything...)

Gerald just sighs, and facepalms. half of him wants to commit assault because he doesn't agree with what others are doing and this upsets him to the point of physical violence, and the other half of him just wants to shirk his duties as a hero and waste his (and others') time making inflammatory remarks for the express purpose of upsetting others, which pleases his deeply troubled self somehow.
