heh yeah this seems weird to me too that we'd just let a bunch of goblins to hang out and drink our booze when they *just* sieged and murdered half the fort not even week ago.

that, and they start arguments and fistfights with the other patrons like nonstop.  makes me want to put up a "no goblins allowed" sign.

You mean like some sort of Dwarven "purity league"?

NO BEAKDOGS, NO GOBLINS, NO KOBOLDS.

:P

I don't know for certain, but I believe that all of the goblins that come to your tavern have been born or assimilated into other civs.

You know, someone should start up a tavern in a goblin fort, and see what sort of visitors come.

Well, it's not for the booze, because goblins don't eat or drink.

So... they must be there for the poetry.  Yes.  That's it.  Goblins are huge poetry fans.

Aww I'd let Kobolds in, they may steal all our precious valuables, but they're just so darn cute.  Of course the Kobolds can come have a tasty half-pint beer at the pub.  We'll even let them "steal" it so they feel at home.

On the other hand...

I actually do see a lot of goblin poets.

Goblin visitors are either:
1) Goblins from your own civ or a nearby friendly human or elf civ and therefore not hostile and didn't just siege you.
2) Performers. Travelling performers can apparently come from anywhere however Toady mentioned that they check if they'd be welcome first. So if you really are getting goblin dancers from the goblin civ that just sieged you, it's not working as planned (although legends mode seems to distinguish some attacks as being from the whole civ and others as being from groups within the civ).

The devlog mentions a goblin dancer being attacked by a visiting human as their two civs were at war which is pretty funny. Mind you, being at war and recognising an enemy doesn't seem to work properly in adventurer, so it's possible that there's a lot more that needs fixing.

-- I suppose beast hunters from actual goblin civs might turn up too. Haven't seen any of then though.

Race (more like species in this case) doesn't determine hostility or affiliation to a particular civilization, though certain personality traits are weighted to appear more frequently. You can see this in your dwarves z screen, as the first chunk of white preference text is followed by a few interesting differences in opinion. The goblins were stolen captives, bred into a peaceable state, or particularly adventurous artists, assimilated into other tolerant cultures. Friendly enough, these gobbos, though they really do like starting trouble.

On the inverse, dwarves and humans can show up as part of sieges. Same deal, though for the most part these nefarious individuals were kidnpped by goblin snatchers.

But it's far easier to kill them when they are outnumbered 1 to X, and also drunk.

Goblin soldiers make good cannon folder.
In another word, dwarven ale makes them dwarfy enough to join your army.

I really, really want Toady to give me the option of restricting what visitors I get. No damn elves and no damn gobbos in my fort please. Every time I get a goblin siege I fear one of the visitors will throw my lever and let their brothers in.

Do accidents to visitors make the civilisation or other outside people angry, like accidents to merchants do? Because I would arrange an accident in that uncomfortable situation.

Because A. Dwarves find it physically impossible to get mad at someone randomly whos enjoying a drink, and B. Alcohol brings all people together. Booze makes dwarves compliant and friendly, it should work for Gobbos too.
