No!  We must break free!

Try to pull the lock now.

The lock doesn't move, but it will unlock if the parts are all correct.

That's... impossible to do within any reasonable amount of time, just through guessing.

Attempt to disassemble the lock by pulling one of the parts further up than possible and wrenching it loose.

The occupant pulls on each part, the second and sixth seem to pull out slightly more than the others but won't come out, and both seemed to click when pulled into such position.

All parts are up.
The first part is in the 3rd, the second part is in the 3rd, the 3rd part is in the 3rd, the fourth is in the 2nd, the fifth is in the 2nd, the sixth is in the 2nd.

Spin each bit one at a time until a click, repeat the process with the pullables, do it slowly

The occupant spins each part.

No parts but the 2nd and 6th click fully pulled out.

Repeat the spinning process, but do so after pushing all parts but the 2nd and 6th to the medium depth.  Do not spin the 2nd and 6th parts, though.

The occupant manipulates the parts.

The 3rd clicks on the 2nd position, the 4rth clicks on the 3rd position, and the 5th clicks on the first position.
The first doesn't click.

The second part is in the up 3rd position, the sixth is in the up 2nd position.
The first part is mid in the 3rd, the 3rd part is mid in the 2nd, the fourth is mid in the 3rd, the fifth is mid in the 1st.

Repeat the spinning process for the first part only, but only do so after pushing it to the shallowest depth.

The occupant pushes the first part into the down third position, and the whole lock is undone.

The way out is open, but covered by a transition.

The occupant passes through the transition.

The environment has descriptors and is full of varied details.
There are other characters very different than the occupant, they form groups that are described lightly with names and maybe even clashing colors.
The groups of characters are in conflict, and their motivation are vaguely touched on as they fight while the occupant watches on not forced to take sides.

The occupant kills a few of the characters.

The groups of characters become quite aware of the occupant and many flee the battlefield.

Those who don't flee either try to fight the occupant or cower and hide.
