*sigh.*
I'm not sure I need a hug. Maybe a reassuring pat or two.
You hear the air raid siren begin to sound. People begin to panic, running to hide inside nearby buildings. You run into a crowded subway for cover as jet engines can be heard overhead. Police officers close the gate to the subway entrance. You keep running, deeper into the station. The screams and pleas for help of those trapped outside continue for about ten minutes before seemingly being silenced by some intangible and unrelenting force without a sound. You don't dare think what that force was.
You keep running. Deeper and deeper, before taking shelter in some empty security room with cameras all through the subway. At first you feel secure. Then you see it. The subway entrance. Men clad in all black, wearing balaclavas and tactical gear, armbands with a symbol you can't identify due to the low resolution of the cameras.
They easily pry open the gate. They rush in, about a dozen of them. The power goes out before you can see what happens to the others who sought shelter in the subway. You lock the door to the room and cower in the corner. There are footsteps outside. Screams are silenced.
A knock. Just a light tap at first. Then two slightly more forceful knocks. Then the door flies open, the men swarming the room. All the other people who were outside and hiding in the subway try to get in too. Relief and joy washes over you as you realize you are engulfed in a city-wide group hug, and that you are loved.
