I strangely thought this was just a Call-of-Duty-like FPS. I'm slightly interested after hearing the  truth! I might buy it someday in the future during a Steam sale. I have a bunch of other games to play anyway, so no rush to buy it.

It appears to be the Ubisoft game template + (parts of) standard MMORPG template + a third-person cover shooter.

I suppose it's an uncommon combination of tired formulae, and that might be something, but I'm particularly averse to the former two, having already played them extensively in other forms over the past decade. I'm reluctant to pay anything resembling full AAA price for an only mildly innovative product, and this kind of creative stagnation really shouldn't be further rewarded.

There is no game that can't be described as x+y+z.

Thought experiment: describe DF as X + Y + Z and do it justice.

that was a luky dwarf. I had one dabbling surgeon fail so spectacularly that the patient skull flew a tile away from the table.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Close enough. Although you misspelled Rogue.

So I did. For whatever reason, that's the one word that I'll consistently fuck up on.

Edit: I seem to be responsible for 10 out of 592 posts containing rouge on the forum, all of them typos, the majority in different threads, and several corrected by others.

Nope, I think he's right. Just like rouge, you apply Dwarf Fortress to your face and it can change drastically.

There is no game that can't be described as x+y+z.

If you're vague enough, no, no game escapes x+y+z. The universal Ubisoft game template isn't particularly vague, though, nor is the bundle of specific MMO trappings this falls for (area gating, grinding, meaningless quests, spongey enemies, numbers everywhere, painstakingly tiny gear progression, arbitrary gamey currency for PvP, to name a few).

One might argue I was being vague with "third-person cover shooter", and then simply conclude The Division is "Ubisoft Game goes MMO".
