Improvisational forms increase Poetry Skill
« on: January 23, 2016, 09:42:37 am »

Riffing and experimenting on the fly is a good way to practice and learn, so couldn't it raise Poetry skill? Right now the only way to improve it is to compose more poetry, but this generates a massively spammy list of examples that you may never want to use or hear afterward.

Improvised forms should have quality too, then.  It is certainly reasonable to think that a terrible poet might create a form of poetry that nobody could ever write a good poem in.

A poetic form is just a set of conventions and tropes applied when creating in that form. It's too loose an outline to have a quality in and of itself. Even if the original creator could only make crappy poetry with it, others with the competence could be inspired and/or challenged to make more out of the form.

Improvisational creations are ephemeral, so the quality only matters to the audience.
