Don't rush Eiba.  It's not easy to create a whole story based on what little information a game like Dwarf Fortress gives.

Can't write.
Got Pokemon Diamond.
It's fun.
Perhaps I'll be tired enough with that game by this weekend to update.

This is a great story! I wonder if Melbil will be making anymore carvings...

I bet when this is finished it'd be a cool fort to explore if you knew the story bhind it... you'd be able to visit all the tourist attractions   :p Melbils cell... the explorers fort... the tunnel of merchanty doom... It'd be even better if it was possible to pull levers in adventure mode.

Actually, you already can pull levers in adventure mode.

And I can say for sure Melbil's carvings will actually be a major component of the next update. But speaking of the next update... Err, I know it seems like I've been neglecting this, but my Pokemon-hiatus has run into final-zone and so... It will be a while yet before I update... Yeah, sorry.

I should also add that I've been toying with ideas to wrap this up, as I really can't see myself devoting too much time to it after the Next Version comes out... I was wondering what people would want more, a satisfying if relatively rushed conclusion, or extremely sporadic updates. I could do either.

Just imagine. The humans, pissed off of not seeing back any of their caravans, siege the fortress.
Urist sees that, she attacks them with her pick axe, and...she dies, of course, they're something like two dozens !
Could be cool. A tragic ending for a tragic dwarf.

I've been away for awhile, glad to see this is still going!

I'll try and catch up on it later tonight.

I just wanted to add my support.  I've been playing DF since December, but I only just found this thread the other day.  This has been the most entertaining read for me this year!  I sure hope you can find the time to keep up with it.

It can be no other way.

Melbil should escape and then lock Urist up (either that or kill her) and then rule the fortress on his own.

Seriously, whatever you do just please don't let Melbil die, the little guy is really starting to grow on me. I like that he's a social misfit himself but hasn't gone evil and vengeful the way Urist has (yet). He's a good foil for her.

Make Melbil die. Make 'im hit by bodies in the head, upper body and lower body and make him sick because of that. Then the flood will carry him to the waterfall while he's asleep!

If the humans seiged the fortress I doubt they would be able to doo much if Urist flooded it.

I haven't read it, but I know how to use Wikipedia...

I have to say, I'm rather disturbed... I'd... rather not be dismembered...

Well, I'm finally done settling in after moving home for the summer (my college lets out pretty late), and so I suppose I could get back to this... Expect an update later today.
