Gah! A waterfall right in the middle of the planned great hall.

Well it looks like that's the kind that produces mist- in other words, it's actually quite a good thing! (If you ever want dwarves to spend time in your great hall, that is.)

A group of elephants crosses the newly made bridge.

Fortunately they soon headed back over. However this does indicate a need for defence.

Takijap sets up workshops for metal smelting to produce some weapons and armour.

Meanwhile Slartibartfast continues mining out the great hall. Slartibartfast seems to have some problem with extracting gems however, out of the last twenty gem bearing rocks mined, only one gem has been produced.

The caravan arrives, but painful ponderous pachyderms lie in wait. Still if they make it to the trade depot Grek has produced several bins of rock crafts to trade for the meat they are carrying.

That's because I know gems are pointless except for moods, and you don't need that many just for moods  :)
Or maybe its because I'm not legendary yet. How do you expect me to do a good job without being the pride of the dwarves nation?

One of the guards decided to runoff after the elephants.

Coming back to the entrance a little while later I found JimmyJ carrying an elephant corpse to the refuse pile.

A butchers shop was set up to process the corpse. Providing the dwarves with their first taste of fresh elephant.

After finishing excavating the great hall, Slartibartfast struck out to the east and struck silver.

Slartibartfast breaks through into a chasm.

And shortly after reached legendary status.

Meanwhile TakiJap gets started on forging the equipment for short_dwarf.

I'm back, unfortunatly the fort was lost when my old computer ascended to silicon heaven in a blaze of glory (and people wonder why I keep a extinguisher next to the desk).

I'm thinking of setting up a succession game for the forum. Give a shout if you'd be interested, along with preferred site conditions, dwarf and equipment.

Make me an engraver please. Or if you name nobles, I would like to either be the sheriff or the hammerer. If I can't be neither, I'd like to be a siege engine operator if you use them. If not, I'd like to be a mechanic, death traps for everyone! Also, the map should have elephants, lots and lots of elephants to make things interesting.
