Okay, we have:
Miner: Cerj
Miner: Slartibartfast
Carpenter/Woodcutter: Jimmy J
Mason/Architect: Shzar
Craftsdwarf/Mechanic: Grek
Grower/Herbalist: Herr B-Dog
Fisherdwarf: Xenomorph

The rest of course will be added in imigration waves...
I do need volunteers for the Metalsmith...
(The less specific you are with what type of job you want, the sooner you're likely to get in.)

Oh and for the record, none of the animals seem to be undead unfortunately, we do have Ogres and Harpies though...

I would add that even if living elephants like to pretend they'll leave the dwarves alone, I have no intention of leaving them alone.

Now, to play the game!

I'd like to be the metalsmith.  You doing a magma rush?  That way we can have fun being attacked from inside AND outside, right from the get go...

And as an added bonus, I might be able to make some actual armor to keep our front line soldiers alive a couple seconds longer.

It began innocently enough, Cerj and Slartibartfast mining out a small entrance hall, Jimmy J making disassembling the wagons and making beds, Shzar building doors and bridges, Herr B-Dog gathering plants, while Xenomorph fished for turtles (not fish...), and Grek... twiddled his thumbs...

Eventually he decided out of pure boredom to chip away at the face of the cliff till it was smooth... then he persuaded Jimmy J to help him prepare a path away from the fortress (as he very desperately wanted to be helpful), he would chip away at little stones in the path, while Jimmy would cut down the trees...

Unfortunately...

Dispite the fact that he carried a rather large axe, Jimmy J panicked and ran away screaming along with Grek...

The harpies followed.

As all the dwarves ran inside, the harpies tried to follow, but were set upon by the dwarves' two dogs.
A vicious fight ensued:

Herr B-Dog, and then Xenomorph look on as the dogs handily slaughter the harpies:

Grek, who's idleness prompted this decided to start a new project... training the dogs for combat...

The dwarves would clearly have to grow more of a backbone if they were to survive in this haunted land...

Meanwhile, oblivious to the events outside, Cerj and Slartibartfast were having their own "adventure":

But really, who wants to hear about them?

Sort of a magma rush...
I'm going to start the main fortress on the near side of the Chasm (ridiculously extreme distances not withstanding) and work inwards... And it really would be a pain to have to walk all the way out of the fortress with those dead lizards and such...

Also, I remember specifically asking not to be the one to penetrate to the river  :( :P

But what do I know?
Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.

"I thought it was the size of the others!" said Vanon. "I guess it was just standing further away!"

Well you weren't actually the one to penetrate the river... you were just standing next to the one who did...

... Nobody died. No harm no foul, right?

Speaking of Slartibartfast the miner... look what he just found:

If only I had started my fortress three tiles to the south!
...
Well, I still think I can make use of it...

The fortress has been progressing nicely, the first fields are almost ready for flooding.

Jimmy J was going out to chop down more trees, having made almost everything wooden the fortress will need till the next immigration wave, when suddenly, a familiar sight:

Brave Jimmy, remembering his humiliation last time, as he fled from what the dogs slaughtered handily, gripped his axe and charged!

He doesn't fare so well...
His two cats look on as their chosen dwarf bleeds to death:

The harpies then fly off into the wilderness, leaving a grieving outpost no closure...

Well, most of the fortress is grieving, Xenomorph is looting...

After Xenomorph disrobes the corpse, he then decides to haul it to its tomb, presumably to get out of doing his actual job...
Xenomorph shows his respect for the dead:

All I can say is... man, what a git. What did Jimmy J ever do to Xenomorph?

Let's have a moment of silence in memory of Jimmy J:

Nooo!  Jimmy!  Who will make my bed now?
(And if he already made one, why is his tomb so small?)

Let us take comfort in the fact Jimmy was content when he died, and that he did not have time to feel the horrible wounds he suffered.
