If your stonecrafter accepts a "make rock toys" job while halfway across the map from his workshop, which has a stockpile full of rocks next to it, he'll grab a rock where he is and slowly drag it all the way to his shop.

Unless the workshop has a linked input ("gives to") stockpile.

Also, if it's more than one square deep, the water above the first set of squares will be clean, even if the bottom is muddy.

This is why I always make cisterns 2-levels deep.  Don't make them huge and sprawling, but instead make them tall and narrow.  Say, 5x5 that is 5 levels deep.  That's 100 tiles of 7/7 water not touching the bottom.  You will never have to refill it, even.

Ah. I'd accidentally flooded my cistern so there's water in the 'pipes' as well, in the route between well and cistern. So its clean because of that.
