A... giant elk bird?

You do not want to talk about the elk bird right now.

We might have been drunk at the time.

A book that hurts to look at. It whispers eldritch secrets whenever you look away.

You bought this from a secretive black-marketeer your... friends located.

But enough rumination, dreams, paranoia, remniscing. You're out of prison now, and your brother isn't going to assassinate himself, after all.

That's right, better get to it.  You remembered to purchase a poisoned dagger and such, right?

Yup, it's time to visit the brewery your brother guards for a living.

Everything is prepared. The knife is waiting with your 'contact' at the castle.

Yup, it's time to visit the brewery your brother guards for a living.

Brewery? The brewery that Bob works at is a brewery of lies and secrets and deceit and it doesn't make beer and also isn't a brewery.

You're uncertain why you decided to call it that. Ugh, your head hurts.

Where do you go next?

Your contact...'s grandmother! So we can take her hostage, and be extra sure of their loyalty.

Wait. Why are you trying to kill the only family member who talks to you still? The one who bails you out of jail every time you get arrested? Are you sure your head is screwed on right? You haven't been indoctrinated by any cults have you?

+1. Maybe she'll sympathize with us and give us some wise grandmotherly advice on assassinations.

Its... well it's hard to understand sometimes. You love your brother. He's basically your only real friend, he helps you out when you smash up a bar or get caught smuggling alchemist's fire out of the armory, and he's there for you as often as he can be when he's not on business.

The problem is his business.

He's the spymaster for the Pretender (You refuse, even in an internal monologue, to call him King) Grith. He's the lynchpin holding down the kingdom from exploding into anarchical revolution, having rebel groups infiltrated, predicting where raids are going to be, and hardly ever leaving the castle. I mean, you're pretty sure he doesn't approve of the Pretender, but he helps him. He's seen dozens of your compatriots thrown to the blood pits, even if all he did was report their locations and activities.
You could suppose that it's possible that he's just some blinded fool who doesn't know what he's doing, or who's overly impressed by the Pretender's power, but you know him too well for that to really be the case.

He knows exactly what he's doing.

And that's why, even though it might break your heart to do it, you have to kill him. Everyone is counting on you.

Can you think about something else you dont want to start crying in public.

Your contact...'s grandmother! So we can take her hostage, and be extra sure of their loyalty.

That's... an interested idea. You're not exactly sure how you're going to take her hostage, get word to him, not get betrayed once you show up at the castle, but, well, sure.

Don't take her hostage.  Why would you DO that?
