I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.

-1 to hurting grandmas!
What is WRONG with you, other voices!

HURTING grandmas?!? I don't know about anyone else, but I only wanted to KIDNAP her, not HURT her! What a monstrous thought!
NO HURTING GRANDMAS!
---

For right now though, I don't think we'll be able to kidnap her anyway. Let's bluff this one out. "Hey guys, is [our contact's name] here yet?"
Hug grandma, because she deserves it.
...
"Oh, he [or she or it or what-have-you] didn't tell you he invited me? Haha, how silly! He must've just forgotten. Well, might as well continue doing whatever you were doing before I interrupted!"

Join the gathering as if everyone there is an old friend.

Poisoned dagger through the door! Which they're hiding behind! Works every time.

You cannot put the dagger through the door the old lady is hiding behind, because it is currently owned by her grandson several miles away and the obtainment of which is the reason you came to kidnap her in the first place! For some reason.

is that.. is that the pretender in the backround, with the gatekeeper?!?

Not unless the Pretender is a secret elf bowman and the Gatekeeper was a gnome standing on a secret elf's head all this time.

You briefly consider this, while everyone stands in frozen silence.

You get the feeling you should be really certain about whatever you say next!

I still vote for bluffing it out. This'll totally work, right?

+1, but with "I'm sure mumble mumble mumble" (indicate all three members of the party) "remembers me from that do with , don't worry. Food looks smashing."

"Hey guys, is Janir here yet?"

Janir was your contact. Please oh please oh please let him have been in on whatever secret elf conspiracy is going on here.

"..."

"No, he's not here. We weren't expecting him. He should be on duty at the fortre-"

"Oh, he didn't tell you he invited me? Haha, how silly! He must've just forgotten. Well hey, might as well continue doing whatever you were doing before I interrupted!"

You sense weakness, and seize the opportunity to ingratiate yourself with the worrying secret elves and wave in their general direction.

"I'm sure mumble mumble mumble remembers me from that do with , don't worry. Food sounds smashing mind if I just take a seat?"

Perfect. These Elves don't speak goblin, that's like four fewer chances for them to realise what's up. Lucky break!

these gay elves are racist fucks and you dont want to talk to them any more.

Let's go back to being someone else while George smooth-talks his way out of secret-elf-based death. But who?

I'm willing to let the slime herder take a back seat for a bit longer.

How about the spymaster?

The gatekeeper should be finished with his merciless destruction now, unless he was talking to us in the void while simultaneously slaughtering heroes. Which seems like a possibility with that guy. Either way, might as well check.

You are now the Gatekeeper.

You are taking a break on the battlements again, watching the world. It could be such a good world, after all, if there was more free agency.
Not that you know much about that.

You consider the matter of that goblin who appeared in the Other Place while you were fighting the heroes.

How did he get in there? The Other Place has been abandoned for years, ever since the old king, his family and all his wizards were assassinated, leaving the throne to inherit to a minor lord.
(You find it easier to pretend to yourself that the new King didn't kill them all because there's no proof and it hurts to be following the valid, legal, orders of someone you can't prove did it)

If it wasn't for the fact that they were killed in a variety of unpleasant ways, you'd assume he was a survivor. But any survivors would have come to the attention of the kingdom long before. It's been more than a decade, and there was nearly an open rebellion in the second year.

You suppose they might be there again, but they vanished pretty fast when you over-reacted before.

There's only one thing you're sure of, in your strange way, as you sit on the battlements.

Best view in Äbar.

Why not just jump off? Walk away to the ocean, reflect for a bit, maybe make find a new interest. You need some time with yourself, it seems like.

You guess. It hasn't been that long since the new king conveniently caught dead-relative-itis, though.

Besides, you've got a date with the ocean.

Hup.

Make a big sandcastle and pretend that it's you who rules all the lands from it, not the King.

Be goblin assassin guy. Go meet your contact while he's on duty at the fortress.
