A small, humanoid insectoid race that looks like a cross between a praying mantis and a bee. It has a relatively thin carapace, relying on agility more than brute strength.
Apart from the wings and wing cases, it is covered in small, chitinous hairs. The hairs offer little protection, instead being used for insulation against cooler environments. It possesses iridescent bands on it's limbs and abdomen. These bands are duller on non magical individuals, and brighter on magical ones. The hue of the bands are biased towards the magical school of the individual.

I think Protection is like armor, or tough skin.
While Defense is ability to defend.
Even if you get through the Defense, there's still the Protection to deal with.

Hard to hurt, or hard to hit.

I think you are misunderstanding. [Arcane Background] means that the majority of the race can use it, basically anyone with the [Arcane Background] can use magic. However, 20% of populations who aren't given the trait can use magic anyway, effectively having the trait despite not being given it.

Arcane Background =100~% Spellcasters

Defense is based on Parry, meaning it is more difficult to hit the unit in Melee combat. Protection is *likely* based on Toughness, making them harder to damage. Defense is blocking/dodging the attack, while Protection is tanking the hit.

I think it acts as Arcane Background, but only for one school.

Given the protection penalties, my guess is that they're fairly fleshy and soft. Given their horrendous vigor, being immobile, and anemic, seems like they might get ulcers pretty easy too, which would probably fester pretty badly, and it almost seems like they'd be oozing. Seems like a Broodmother or a Flesh Queen or something more than a Queen Bee...

On a sidenote, I am bewildered that Loyal is a hindrance, Heroic(creator's mindset) is a major hindrance, and whatever Vow means, if it's something their creator would like.
