Harbul watched the slim goblin leave, before turning back to his employers.
"Right. Sorry about that. Although, believe me, having that woman owing you a favor is worth any price."He drops the folder parchment on the table.
"Regarding your acquisitions, the top half of that list is basically a who's who of gutter trash and miners' sons. All fire and no discipline. Or, skill... Subtlety, loyalty or experience."
"They'll probably be good until the first few die, but a decent drill sergeant could turn them into sub-par line infantry."He taps the table a few times, worriedly, before continuing.
"In regards to training... I've come up dry."
"This town is frankly awful for them. Between the mines and the waterworks, most of the jobs in this city are pretty high-risk, so when someone gets a soldier's pay, they cling to it. Heck, some of the city guard will probably stay there until the armor rots off their corpses."
"If you want to find veterans, you'll have to head downriver. The guild hall may have some pickings tomorrow, but frankly I doubt you'll find anything notable, and those who are will be just as expensive as you fear. This also goes for other talent, unless you really dig."He grins.
"Which thankfully is what you're paying me for."
"Depending on your needs, I've scraped together a few names of hunters, mess cooks, woodsmen, carpenters and the like."
"Our recent tableguest is also on that list."

[Empathy1]
[Rapport8]The guards are sitting around a low table, chatting together.
There are five in total, all human. Four of them seem to be regaling a fifth, whose hair is matted, and tabard drenched with sweat. They are all wearing guard's livery. Two have rank, one with a single stripe on the shoulder of their jacket, another with two.
The mood seems boisterous.
They are only too happy to greet a pretty lady with such a radiant smile, regardless of whether her skin is green or glowing pink.
They anxiously turn down Riskiss's offer, insisting that they buy, and the finest wine, and soon enough she is happily perched upon the lap of a soldier as the group fights to tell her about the "monster ogre sleeping in our cell".
The story is long and overlapping, but they manage to tell all of it.
