Those penthouse suites are terrible.

Haha, that's marketing for you.  They are just the 3rd floor of a Motel-6 or some danky roadside inn.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As for metals, I left this issue for the next overseer.  My hammerdwarf became a hammerlord wearing no armor, gaining 0 Armor User.

The Strip - Chapter 3: Temples And Hemp House

Autumn 107
Sanctume has become a hammer lord but it was low key as I take over the office of the militia commander.  How can it be eventful when I made the rank without any armor?

Anyway, this gave me an excuse to remain indoors and inspect the rows of temples to various deities.  I figured that with all the gold bars we have in stock (over 2300), a few golden statues for each temple and related deity will give this area some importance.

Spoiler: List of Temples (click to show/hide)

Oh, there is a large library in here, “The Inky Bastion” but it was lacking in tables and thrones.

Mid-Autumn

On the 1st of Sandstone mid-autumn, Farmer Mosus is possessed and claimed a forge!
I was far too excited and hoped for a nice war hammer because I forbade every bars except the few steel bars we have.

I then expanded the sleeping area of the barracks and place 10 more beds.  It just make sense that 20 soldiers need more than 10 beds to share.

I proceed to make a cursory examination of the military equipments and see what can be made from latest metal purchases from the caravan.  For my sanity sake, I gave nicknames to these unknown (undorfed) soldiers.
Spoiler: Soldier List (click to show/hide)
I also recruited someone to use an Iron Flail to complete fill our ranks to 20 soliders.

--

A Ghostly Farmer, Zilban Nomalber has risen and is haunting the fortress.
There’s a coffin for him, but no remains.  I had one of the engraver proceed to memorialize Zilban.  This also gave me an opportunity to look at the tombs.  I had the miners dig an area to store coffins, slabs, and build a gold craft shop to be used for engraving slabs.  Poor Zilban died of thirst back in 104.

Late Autumn
On the 22nd of Timber, the exploratory mining found native silver.  Perhaps we can make a bunch of silver bolts and shoot crossbows half naked, or clad in leather and bone. Heh.

Winter arrives

Handsomely placing the gold statues of specific deities for their respective temples are completed.  This also show cases the placement of the indoor library, noble rooms, tavern, and forges.

On the 11th of Moonstone, the miners have struck tetrahedrite!  Yes, we can at least make copper armors for all soldiers.  Is it another omen that rutile has also been struck?  I wonder what can be made from rutile other than doors and cabinets.

I managed to bribe the armorsmith to complete a set of steel armor for me.  We have some more steel for 2 more sets steel armorss.  Bronze can be used for helms, and 4 Bismuth Bronze mail shirts.  I went ahead and order copper armors in anticipation of the tetrahedrite find.

On the 20th of Opal, Mebzuth, Siege Operator is taken by mood and claims a craft workshop.

Well, that was craft, wood, and crap and I am not going to end my story with that piece of earring.

This is The Strip after all, so the housing above The Learning of Stumps is completed.  We want more housing so we can make more taverns up on the surface along the gold road.

The Hemp House 2nd floor bedrooms have begun.  Oh, didn’t I mention this before?

Yeah, we have a couple of Elves in our city and they cultivated Hemp.  So it is only natural to produce them in mass quantity in our farm plots, for their usefulness.  For now, there is production for hemp robes, trousers and socks.  Eventually once all the workers have their civilian attires met, hemp sheets for the library will come in handy.  And don’t forget about the value of hemp soap!

Spring arrived finally, and our population: 119 (+2 elves, hemp cultivators)
10,295 Food Stores with 4,711 booze.  The Buffet is open!  The Beer Garden is bottomless!

Better tell Gwolfski.

Is "the strip" actually on one street, btw? One tavern seemed to be underground, but I'm not entirely sure.

forging coins and melting immediately gives a 50% profit, while coin stacks split into one get 500% profit. Really time consuming to split, tho.

Edit: maybe 5000%?

It's 10% if you don't split the coin stack into individual coins.  And the only known way to split the stack is painful macro-based caravan trading.

Obviously it's up to the overseers to decide whether they want to do that, but I shouldn't expect it will be necessary.  You've got steel from trading, and copper on site.

Is "the strip" actually on one street, btw? One tavern seemed to be underground, but I'm not entirely sure.

It looks like the fortress was made inside to begin with, then a tavern, a non specific deity temple, then 20 or so specific deities' temples, and a library; and magma forge.

The bedrooms (looks like wiki fractal design) was dug under the east wing where the farms are, but the trees above when felled left holes on the ceiling and making the underground farms to not quite work.

When I started, the east of the volcano had one large building for the manager.  I just alligned the holes to make 1x7 farm plots below.

It just happens the opening of the fort entrance is close to the middle, so I just build a road made of gold bars.

The manager's office, and the farm ceilings are about a good distance from the road, so I build above ground buildings from there.

The Hemp House was to make something from an existing 5x5 channelled area.  So I just dug and fit another building 1 tile away from the road.

The west part of the volcano is pretty much untouched.  I did some plant gathering from that side, but not all, and there are plenty of trees still.

The volcano caldera has a natural path from its south.

With some copper found, making more steel isn't as a dire need as it would have been.  The year got the 20 soldiers to lords and masters from sparring.  I would take out their shields temporarily and level up armor user next before the armor orders are completed.

p.s. jaccarmac - the reason that mining designation was not being done was because there was no path to it.  See the constructed floor over the 3x3 stairs that is dug down to SMR and exposed caverns.  I too initially mark digs around the stairs so I can wall the missing corner, but it remained untouched because there is no path.

Yeah I finished, save link should be there at the end of chapter 3, used windows compressed folder.

Let me know if the save works ok. I used LNP default Phoebus, and LNP will not overwrite raws when installing new graphics.

Don't mess with other people's buildings. If you upgrade their taverns, i.e. you take out stone beds and put in gold beds, that should be fine, but don't come in and start breaking walls and floors.

Lol, oops.  I did dismantle an existing wood building above, which houses the manager's office.  It was not a tavern, and uncompleted with partial roof.

I'm sorry that I deconstructed such unique architecture.  I knew it was bad omen when deconstruction causes a couple of cave-ins and left some workers unconscious for days.

Well, that building is now a library, (and not a tavern), but variety could not hurt.  Someone still needs to pass the porn "private invitation" flyers out in the strip.

The one on the surface was an attempt of mine to do something, that's fine I don't really care or remember what it was for :P

EDIT: fixed that rule to say w/out permission. Probably makes more sense now :)
