10. Host regular moon-viewing and tea-drinking parties.
I'm arranging this for the full moon each month and I've successfully had two of these so far. I need to make a guest list and menu for March. I just picked up some new silver tip jasmine tea, which will be great for a Spring but I need to think up a new simple dessert. I also need to send thank-you cards for Monday's celebration.

Whaaat. I want to be your friend.

I'm gonna open up easy with two three four goals, but I'll add more as they become apparent.

1. Learn isiXhosa. Properly. None of this pansy partial-speaking and pidgin.

2. Get into tutoring. Preferably in conjunction with the above.

3. Take singing up a notch. I'm holding steady, but not really improving. I want to get it up to 'good' or 'great', not just 'above average'.

4. Get through any one major project. Could be the experimental physics, could be something computational, whatever. Learn/improve a skill and do something awesome.

February has been a month of "The hard stuff is easy, the easy stuff is hard." Bleeeehhhh. I can do better!

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Spoiler: The Year Marches On (click to show/hide)
Doing better! Still got some heavy stuff to get started on, but I'm feeling less guilty. This update may be a bit premature, but March so far has been a huge improvement on the malaise of January and February.

Self improvement is a goal in itself. Everyone who posts in this thread is a winner in my book tbh. If you tried your utmost and failed, it doesn't matter. 'Cause you keep getting up and trying again and again. You can lose a thousand battles and win the war. Just fight until you can't.

Aand I'm a rambler but the point of this post is just to say that you're good folk. As long as you keep trying.

So far, so mediocre. No real progress on any goals, but no regression.

I can't believe that the year is going by so fast.
Me too :'(
I made a list of my goals but then I lost it, then I tried to make it again and I met a memory void or gap in between. Argh.
