Scavenger
« on: January 02, 2016, 01:55:18 pm »

You emerge from an escape pod. A forest surrounds you, and you hear the sounds of wildlife in the distance. The sky is filled with streaks of falling debris and explosions. A rocket battery is still firing into the sky from the distance. The forest is not particularly thick, and a cold wind rushes between the trees. You need make yourself warm somehow.

You look down at your own body. It is burned beyond recognition, your claws are dull and your tail drags limply along the ground. It's a miracle you're still breathing, let alone walking. The last thing you remember is the captain catching you in the vents and trying to flush you out with a flamethrower. You did not react in time and were set on fire. What happened next is a blur, but you seem to have escaped the destruction of the ship.

You feel cold and hungry. You need to rest, but if you fell asleep now you would most certainly die. Finding some food is the most important thing right now. If you found enough to convert into some fat, you might be able to start repairing some of the damage to your body and maybe even survive for a day.

What do you do?

Examine nearby debris for potential tools. Consume plantmatter for Food. It may not provide as much as meat, but it's better then going hungry.

[T+1]You look around. Not a lot of debris has fallen in the nearby area. Not far lies a metal pole, a bit further is a heavy plate of metal and a fuel cell. The escape pod itself has a few pieces, but the only thing even vaguely intact is a broken subspace radio that now mostly just works as a regular radio. If you found a computer unit, you could possible fashion a sort of metal detector with the radio and the metal pole. You would also need some way to power it. The fuel cell is useless without a fuel converter.

[T+1]You look around for something to eat. You try a few plants but spit them out immediately. Your species is carnivorous, only your prey can digest this stuff. After a bit of searching, you find some kind of fungus that smells vaguely like meat. It is palatable, if a bit unfulfilling. [+10] You presume there might be more of the stuff to be found in the forest.

((Getting some Notrium flashbacks...))

Check the forest for small prey and gather some flammable shrubs.

First things first, check that our lovely mane is intact. Then go searching for animal trails, maybe we can find a congregation spot or a trail of colony-based scavengers.

You smell the air for traces of flesh or something small to hunt, but feel nothing. Your senses are weak and it's going to take a long time for them to recover. If there were others of your brood here, you would have been killed and eaten by now. You also check yourself for a mane, despite having no hair whatsoever and an exoskeleton. You do not find a mane.

[T+1] You search around for shelter and food and find some more fungus, a larger amount this time, and consume it greedily[+20]. You also gather some flammable looking underbrush.

[T+1] While walking around in the forest looking for shelter or food, you hear the sound of someone brushing up against a tree. You move behind a ridge while avoiding quick movement and peek out. There is an alien lurking in the distance. It doesn't seem to have noticed you.

It is blue and slightly smaller than you. It reminds you of your own species. Bipedal, with sharp claws, having an exoskeleton for protection and a long flexible tail. Despite it looking weaker than you, you would most likely get killed in direct combat in your current condition.

Unless you have some brilliant idea for killing it, it might be best to flee and continue your search.
