Arms Race - 1784: Atterton Monarchy Design Phase

OOC Thread

Greeting Engineers. In a fair battle, the Mulard is a worthy opponent, but attempting to land troops across hostile waters was disastrous. It would be wise to take some semblance of control over the sea before attempting such a move again. Also of concern is how we are falling behind in the land battle. You have some difficult decisions to make.

Our intelligence agency was able to assist you in this matter however. Enclosed are the details of the British “Imperial Cannon” design. Please choose a more suitable name whilst you design something to accompany this new weapon.

We need to get something to push the land battlefield again

Maybe some form of rifle that can beat the Victoria
we could try for a breech loader, I also think we should submit the Mulard to the Americans

Why we have to change it? Assume that we can exchange the 6lbers on the Mullard we now automatically get the best gunboats around and build an Empire.

The brits get a breechloader, but its so expensive for its intended use, plus we should be capable of keeping them at bay. The federates are, however, more troublesome, as they got bigger guns around. We should design a smaller, faster, and more mobile field gun, horse hauled, so we can have effective counter-battery fire, and our gun compliment should be more complete.

Another effective addition to our armies will be the grenade or light carbines/pepperboxes for cavalry.

If we are going for something outrageous... How about an observation balloon?

On the focus phase, I totally told you all so. Maybe in the future we shouldn't try and submit 3 commands at once without even discussing them.

And we need to get on appeasing the British merchants and newly-victorious Americans. If the loyalists get either bonus it would be disastrous, and if the confederates do that would still be quite bad.

Well our current ship could win America contract.

Problems we have are Loyalist have too much control over sea thats how they beat us, and we have problems when enemys get pass our artillary lines are troops get overwhelmed.

With our wide range of metal-heavy equipment the British one might be a higher priority, but getting in good with the Americans can't hurt either. As far as I know we can go for both.

Anyway at the end of the last thread we were looking into a pepperbox carbine I think, for cavalry, since they're not very well armed at the moment. Any thoughts?

Well cavalry carbine might increase deployment speed and our ability to out gun the enemies if we do well, I was thinking about making infantary based one so we can quickly make cavalry usless for field combat?

Well we could try going for needler gun which prussians made early in 1836 but didn't put into action for a good while which is a breachloader with percussion cap and was earliest bolt action rifle used? also carbines tend to be variant of rifle with shorter barrel for cavalary usage but tend to lose alot of range and firing rate at this stages.

Well the point of the pepperbox is that you load multiple barrels at once so you can fire them one after the other, then pull back to reload them all.

The brits tried the needle gun and got something fit only for the museums.

Well their design included rifling and was 25 years or more futher out than our one be, plus we have rifling tech so less risky.

They got a percussion cap problem.

With good rolls we can probally get one working one.
