Replacing Nobles
« on: December 30, 2015, 06:31:12 pm »

Im sure we've been over this plenty of times, but I am confused on what the wiki says. I have a vamp duchy (duchy/manager) walled up in a jail cell. If I were to to get rid of him, would I eventually get a new duchy? Same goes for king/queen.

I think any such civilisation-position should soon get automatic replacement dwarf unless things like nearly dead civilisation occur. Though this new guy may not be one of those in your fort.

As far as I understand, the appointed noble position (Duke/Count/Baron) is not replaced when the current holder suffers an unfortunate accident (I don't think a champion is replaced either). If you get an early monarch you don't get to appoint that noble position in the first place. I believe a monarch lost in your fortress is replaced the same as a monarch lost elsewhere: by an automatic selection of a new monarch (if the current one was in your fortress, there ought to be a good chance/risk that the replacement also comes from your fortress).

So pretty much someone will replace the title. I wont be able to choose and it may or may not be in my fortress? Just trying to make sure my world wont go without a duchy.

No. I said the duke won't be replaced.
The monarch will be, however, but you have little control over who will take over. I've had some minor success in getting my expedition leader become monarch for dying civs if the first year passes without an appointment and one occurs at the one year mark (i.e. spring arrives).
