Seriously though, 20~ children in a migrant wave is bullshit. I'm reclaiming a fort not setting up a daycare.

Doesn't the child cap only affect births though?

If you really don't want children, go to the raws in the save file for dwarves(creature_standard)...  Set [CHILD:12] to [CHILD:1].  Granted, you will have some really small dwarves for a few years, but at least they'll do work.

I kill children with menacing spike trap, that way I get to reuse the clothing. If they somehow make it through two lever pulls I can train my docs on them.

Don't bother to get rid of children most of the time, but if I do I sually throw them into unexplored caverns via brige-a-pult. That way they can do something useful before getting eaten.
Or I let them get poked by upright training spears. Gives my doctors more training then just offing them with actual spikes.

Well no babies to deal with in my fort. Never really had a huge influx of children.

That pretty much the case.

Title should be I killed dwarf children because I min max.
Children do make a new blank slate perfect for doing one thing once they come of age.

Calling me a min maxer for not dealing with 50 children in a forts kinda bullshit, but hey, Dwarf Fortress is about winning, right?

Elves aren't the problem here. I live in a giant box in a main fortress floor under the first cavern level. I have no trouble with sieges. What I'm doing is sending in waves of visitor mercs and a few brave migrants every year after some training to fight the giant newt upstairs. The death toll is 50-60 right now. Like I said before, I COULD make a child wall and see if one of them is the future champion of my fort, but I'm only a few years in with low food and tons of visitors. What would end up happening is I get to watch the newt paint the stone walls red and have a ton more corpses to stick in boxes. It's easier for everyone if we literally throw the useless ones under a goddamn bridge and be done with it. There's a real need for adults here. And let's say I keep them around. Every wave I get 20~ children for some weird fucking reason, with my rapidly falling population I'd end up with half my fort being children.

Nope. Dwarf Fortress is about losing. So embrace the challenge.

Dude, you can overproduce on a truly idiotic level with less than ten (10) adult dwarves.  Griping about 'booze-sponge' children is lame when you can produce four thousand units of alcohol and prepared food a year without trying.

Didn't realize posting about my fort was griping. Seems we have some soft hearted children lovers here. I bet they only give their kids grown wooden toys.
