Pythias noted Yilda had entirely dodged the question but chose not to make an issue of it.

"I imagine not, but what choice do we have? We undead were all given this second chance, and now that I see my purpose I am not going to fail my duty again."

"It would be in your interest to extend that feeling to the General, Sacha. He is as worthy of it, if not more, than I."

"I extend him more trust than I do most military men. As for him being more worth it... I doubt it."

Sacha didn't quite feel it important to mention that the only trust Ariston had was residual from Damon.

"Promoted over you, from what I've been told. You seem a much more... experienced man than him. Sounds like backroom trickery to me."

The good captain pushes her hand away.

"Do not. Touch me."

"You're a very grumpy ghost." Iris stated.

Pythias noted Yilda had entirely dodged the question but chose not to make an issue of it.

"I imagine not, but what choice do we have? We undead were all given this second chance, and now that I see my purpose I am not going to fail my duty again."

Iris seemed to grow slightly more serious as discussion of their fate heated up. She had given much thought to this.

"...I'm not sure if this is our only choice." Iris asked, in response to Pythias.  "Can we really save this world? It seems there isn't much left to save...we'd have to wipe everything away...and who can say all this wouldn't happen again...?

Me, I've always wondered if what is going on is some sort of temporary sickness...or just meant to be? Where does the natural state of things lie? In Darkness, or light? Something else? Maybe the Firekeeper can tell me...but, I wouldn't subject all of you to having to hear her answer. I'd imagine most of you would be content to just save the world, if only for a day."
She said, making it clear in her tone that her ambitions were far higher.

"What alternative do we have? Either we do something, or allow the situation to worsen. If we choose the latter, we may as well sit down here and wait to rot away. If I were content with that, I would not be here."

"What are you, a child?"

Iris smoothly pivoted the conversation around.

"An interesting question. I was hardly 20, when I died. I like to believe I've learned to cope with all of this, by maintaining who I was. I never had a chance to mature, so am I really anything more than a foolish young woman? Just like you maintain the rigid stoicism of the old soldier you always hoped you were.

I'm not sure if this is who we really are, or if we choose who we want to be. Or if we can change. But, I like who I am now. I died with no regrets. Can you say the same?"
Iris asked.

"What alternative do we have? Either we do something, or allow the situation to worsen. If we choose the latter, we may as well sit down here and wait to rot away. If I were content with that, I would not be here."

"I'm only thinking out loud. Picture it as a metaphor.

A ship is sinking. You can patch the holes in the hull, and pump out the water and keep it afloat. At some point, however, the ship will sink. Would you stay on the ship, keeping it afloat as long as you could, until you all drowned...or would you abandon it, and try to find a new ship for your crew? Or even an island to live on.

I could understand if our ship was the only one...but, I'm wondering if it is."
Iris asked, her interested peaked.
