Military dwarves "say" they are Sparring but no combat report+ no skill gain

In previous versiond of Dwarf Fortess whenever i had a military and two Dwarves decided to spar they would faceup, start dancing/dodging around the barracks and produce a combat report of "urist lightly taps Urist with his Battleaxe"

in the newest version two of my Dwarves decide to spar like normal, they faceup to each other again like normal, they both have the activity of "Spar" like normal, but they havent gained a single skillpoint in 6 years, neither do they dance and dodge around like they normally do when they spar

i equipped them all with weapons, all with waterskins/backpacks filled with food and drink, squad is set to train, they have a barracks set to train, so i dont know what gives

It's right there on the front page. Currently bugged, to be fixed in next update.
