Cave moss before breaching the caverns

I just started a new fort and started digging out my underground farms. About a season in I start finding cave moss and underground plants (Ones I didn't plant) start popping up. I haven't breached the caverns yet. Any idea why this is happening?

Have they been breached elsewhere on the world by a different fort?

The *large serrated steel disk* strikes the Raven in the head, tearing apart the muscle, shattering the skull, and tearing apart the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Yes, I retired my old fort and made this new one not too far away from it.
