My war animals are useless in combat because they still only scratch and never bite.. In an older fort I "fixed" it by removing the scratch attack from their RAW entirely, forcing bite attacks. But is there another way to fix the problem a bit more elegantly?

I suppose not. Have you reported the bug (for this version) already?

No, I assumed it was known because it's been in the game for quite some time now. A year or more if I remember correctly.

This is probably why rhinos and elephants are so good at being war animals, they don't bite for their good attack.

I'm fairly sure I tried that with Wardogs awhile back and they still scratched. I think the bug showed up when different combat levels were implemented. Brawls and no quarter - that sort of thing. So maybe animals are somehow affected by this and always treat combat like it's non lethal.
