Hope you like it:

I spent more time on this than any other artifact so far.

Could probably use some more work yet, but I get the strangest feeling that if I try to do anything more, I'm going to end up ruining it.

Old Artifact, only caught the name of it.  Was just a plain iron breast plate though.

This artifact isn't necessarily anything special... but I think it would be nice to see a good warhammer depicted... and this one is a rather ornate one, which could be fun.

I hope that's legible, if not I can upload it elsewhere.

Hah, the last post occured as I was posting this. Two war-hammers at once, imagine that.

This is the first artifact from my new fortress, and at first I'd found it rather uninteresting. But as I thought about it, I couldn't help but try and figure out how they made that into this.

While the kobold concept is definitely appealing (the little blighters have attempted infiltration with all three incoming caravans, plus a couple of other times outside of that), I have to admit that the creature is so small it doesn't seem likely ones bones would make for a very good warhammer. Dagger? Alright. Sword? Maybe. Spear? Sure, I can suspend my disbelief that far. Perhaps a bone-axe of some sort. But a warhammer?

The only image I can seem to wrap my head around is one of a ribcage set atop some carved femurs or something, wired into a haft. If anybody feels up to it, I'd like to see their rendition.

After I finish the barrel (this one is harder than the previous...)

Where's that barrel, hmm?

C'mon, I drew silver platemail in that time... with procrastination... What's your excuse?

I just got a nice artifact from a possesed fisherman, it has bands, spikes and images of other useless artifact created earlier. It was produced during the largest goblin siege so far (2 squads of spearmen, one archers all lead by crosbow elites and a squad of trolls) (turned out I was intimidated for nothing) and the arrival of the nobility (yay we are a barony with lots of copper coins).

Oh yeah artifact:
Rashtinthad Recus Volal "Diedtheater the thirst of whiteness" a goblin bone door.
275 wth, 81600monies.
ACIOTHQ, encircled with bands of elephant bone, Demantoid and Palm.
menaces with spikes of goblinbone. on the item is an image of skull totems in copper and an image of a steel amulet in Demantoid.

the amulet "Limnanges" incidentally has a image of my legendary pigtail bag on it.

I feel the ewly arived hammerer will like this door alot.

(asidenote: my fortress suffers from a multitude of useless artifacts. a copper table (nice) a towercap cup, obsidian weaponrack, copper platemail (yay!), palm puzzlebox, pigtail bag, willow amulet, right iron gaundlet, steel amulet, goblinbone door)

Furniture artefacts are never useless, you can set them up in any room and whack it up to legendary easily. The noble won't care if he's sitting in a silt bedroom with just a rubbish wooden bed if he has an artefact copper table to look at.  ;D

the mug and amulets are just there to be stolen by kobolds though. :p

...hmm my clothesmakerperson has just gone secretive and has hoarded :
3bolts of red ropereed cloth, one bar of iron one log of highwood, two rough purple spinells, a turtleshell and two almondines.
I wonder what sort of usefull object is secretly coming into being here.
Behold! it is "Imush_sed" a ropereed bag!
worth 120600monies.
encrusted with almondine. studded with iron and decorated with turtleshell and highwood. adorned with hanging rings of ropereed and menaces with spikes of ropereed and purple spinell.
On it is an image of a goblinbone door in ropereed. an image of a bat in purple spinel and finally an image of dwarves in almondine, they appear to be travelling.

My current fortress' first artifact, produced by a bone carver, was "Tanglecrafts", a turtle shell chain, worth 3600¤. It is decorated with turtle shell. On the item is an image of a turtle shell chain in turtle shell.

Fine. A simple recursive artifact, not really worth sketching. But the second artifact...

"Nobleblaze", a jelly opal toy axe, worth 64800¤, created by a possessed gem setter who liked toy axes and hated bats. It is encrusted with dolomite. On the item is an image of bats in jelly opal. On the item is an image of a dwarf and a turtle shell chain in honey yellow beryl. The dwarf is raising the turtle shell chain. On the item is an image of a jelly opal toy axe in cave lobster shell.

Gah! Double recursion! *Brain melts*

If someone can figure out how to fit three images onto a toy axe, I'd love to see art featuring Nobleblazes. (Maybe a picture of a young dwarf playing with it? Do young dwarves have beards?)

There's an interesting non-artifact object in the same fortress:
This is a well-crafted pig tail tunic. It is made from masterful pig tail cloth woven by Alåth Duthalrigòth. The thread is midnight blue, superbly colored with dimple dye. On the item is a superiorly designed image of a dwarf and a pig tail cloth in giant cave spider chitin by Monom Mözirèzum. The dwarf is raising the pig tail cloth.

I believe this is even rarer than a recursive artifact: the tunic has an image on it of the creation of the masterwork cloth which the tunic was made from.

Actually, i'm starting to believe a non-recursive artifact is even rarer then a recursive artifact.  :D

Nah, I have three more artifacts in that fortress, none recursive. "The Hot Play, an oaken bracelet banded with oak, "Marshrings", a violet spessartine table spiked with violet spessartine, and "The Fortuitous Drill", a GCS silk vest decorated with GCS silk, spiked with morganite, embroidered with a narrow crescent in GCS silk.

Since that bone carver became legendary, half the images in my fortress show her creating masterful goblin bone bolts, dogs killing goblins, or goblins killing dogs. Once your fortress has some history, the dwarves have a lot more choices about what to show in their images, so recursive artifacts become a lot less common.

This is a shameless bump, for great justice.

All glory to the hypnocarp.

I FINALLY GOT A DECENT ARTIFACT!

This is a goblin bone table. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encrusted with Yellow zircon, decorated with turtleshell and encricled with bands of Steel and Iron.  This object is adorned with hanging rings of goblin bone and menaces with spikes of Iron and Yellow zircon.  On the item is an image of thick crescents in Copper.

(114,000 monies)

Wow, Brian, that sounds very cool!

I may add it to my List...

(Then again, I haven't had time to do any more sketches in a while. I may try to do one today, Armok-willing...)

Hah! That's amusing. :)

I agree, the Goblin-Bone Table (What's it's name?) needs to be sketched. All hail to the Moogie, Renderer of Images of Artifacts!
