I think all of these things can be used quite interestingly for the alchemy system.
*Yeah, that is true, the fantasy drugs will give you temporary stat (as in boosts in physical attributes as I doubt any real drugs/LSD/Whatever would do that) boosts while, say, lowering your to do list (As in "Focused" stat things) by one level, for example as you use them/come into contact with them.

My derp senses are tingling.

Despite all the discussion here, I'm seeing a lack of one historically important point. Is it worth adding syndrome effects to regular hemp, which generally has a lower THC content than varieties grown for its use as a drug? It my be worthwhile to add any such modded-in effects by adding a different cultivar that has the relevant syndrome.

Personally I'd rather stick with the derpy fictional drug effects I added to muck root, whip vine, and sliver barb in Adventurecraft. o3o

Its wild hemp anyway, so it isn't cultivated for potency or textiles. And historically all the cannabis people smoked was "rope hemp" until veeeery recently. Hashish was the main form because you had to concentrate it for it to be effective, in fact.

Oooh I suddenly see the potential of cash crop fortress or being focused after drinking a tea or coffee.

I'd play it. How much further downhill can we really go from having murderous, drunken, naked dwarves running around engaging in genocide, mass environmental destruction, twisted social experimentation and the unleashing of things best left leashed?

Honestly, anybody who would disparage such an ambitious and thorough world simulator for its inclusion of drugs and sewer systems sounds like an idiot who wouldn't be able to handle DF, or life in general anyway. I get that Toady might not want the game to become Pooper Scooper Central since faffing around with excrement isn't often the point of legendary tales of yore, but I feel like it'd be a shame to rule things like that out entirely.

Maybe we could even have smoke-ring-blowing as a performance skill. Although that asshole Gandalf always cheats with his magic smoke boats.

tbh I always assumed it was planned as a part of better religious worship along with incense, sacrifices, feasts and ritual fights and sex. isn't it?

No. All of the responses by Toady have left us to believe sex, drugs, bowel movements, and urine shall be left outside of the realm of the simulation.

Frankly? Thank god for that. I was mostly joking above, but this is how I really feel. There are some things that are not required nor complimentary to the pursuit of fun.
