Pot made lots of stuff way more fun, like slapping pizza dough is kinda fun anyways, but when you're baked?

You get all zoned in and it starts to feel like a game instead of something you're doing for $7/hr.

It makes the unbearable things in life enjoyable.

On that note, I've been sober for about a week now (I got one hit in a few days ago) and I feel like I've woken up from the matrix.

I stopped drinking after I spent most of a day drinking multiple liquors and then did shots of everclear in a hot tub. The third one did not stay down, and I realized it was actually a problem that any of them did.

Stuff ain't good for ya.

Nah, particularly when alcoholism runs in the family.

By family, I mean humanity. We're all alcoholics. Don't drink alcohol. It's not worth. You're still probably going to drink, except each time you're going to remember it's not worth.

EDIT: Apparently alcohol should be used for everything besides a beverage.

Well, this thread went off topic quickly. But honestly, Dwarf Fortress does simulate alcoholism, domestic violence, and the effects of PTSD so...

Yeah. When you touch these topics in any creative work, it creates a host of big ol' landmines you gotta avoid.

Hey, so, none of that was directed at anyone in particular. Alcoholism is a problem, but everyone makes their own decisions and not everyone has a problem. Let's not make anything personal or get upset. I do still drink, only in severe moderation.

Dwarf Fortress is a game about an entire race that depends on rampant alcoholism to function efficiently. I still think that the inclusion of things like tobacco or other alternatives would add depth and options to that mechanic. I personally would not approve of the inclusion of weed, but I can see the parallel.

For non-alcohol-istic races, tobacco could be something to deepen tavern interactions and provide a happy thought. I'm playing a human fort right now, and I'd like to see DF-level of detail in smoke rings floating around the tavern :D

Alcoholism is defined primarily culturally, and secondarily physiologically. Someone whose been exposed to a variety of worldwide drinking cultures can get a little irked by the parochial righteousness of someone whose only exposure to a drinking culture has been perhaps college or juvenile. Please don't get the idea that I took it as a personal attack; when I hear someone so slappably smug, I just wanna slap 'em.

No, I'm not doing this. I feel like this doesn't need to devolve into a barely veiled series of barbs. There's plenty of ways to have this discussion without it.

Let's talk about how adding these things could benefit the game.

Oh hey, I didn't think about smoking tobacco as a replacement for drinking to "get through the working day". That could really add some depth to the game, rather than making it a niche thing.

What?

Habits, all want their booze but some want tobacco some want tea some want coffee some expect spices for their foods and it's now your responsibility to get those luxury items by hook or by crook.

I brought up tobacco earlier. They are responding by noting that the dwarven race as it stands in DF are substance-dependant, whether metabolically intrinsic or somehow epigenetically implanted, or due to their psychological states. Is something not clear?

That he feels the addition of cannabis with make DF 'niche' (as if THAT is what makes DF niche) while tobacco will be a good addition? So confusing, ignorant and illogical.
