We could just put some tape over the insignias.

((I'm saying that if we find some or something similar, we can avoid just scraping the emblems off.))

We can tie cloth from the car over them for now.

Also, did the city ahead get bombed, or just fall down?

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

Bombed, still there might be something salvagable there

Not for the first week after the bomb drops, there won't be. I'd rather not dance with short-lived fission products.

Oh, were they nuclear? I was a bit unsure but I'll take your word. In that case our best hope would be to get as far away as we can in any direction that isn't down wind

((Let's not get into that again.))

I want us to find some form of shelter that isn't blown to bits and offers reasonable protection against the elements.

We don't know if they're nukes, but they definitely behave sorta like them, and leaving the blast sites alone for a few days seems positive in any regard.

Go looking for shelter. I believe there were some fallen trees on a nearby hill? The vantage point should be useful, and fallen trees are a great source of improvised shelter.

((The city was destroyed while you were unconscious, you're not sure if it was the earthquakes or a weapon. Sorry for poor writing on my part, I meant to convey that the majority of the city had been turned into rubble))

You tear fabric from the car and tie/wrap it around the emblems on your equipment for now.

Deciding to head back to the hill and make shelter, instead of investigating the city, you begin your several mile trek back.

As you walk you notice the ashes on the ground change from bits of debris and char to fluffy/powdery ash. About 1km from the hill you notice a dark grey powder that has also been deposited. Feeling it in your hands it is gritty and hard.

The closer to the hill you get the thicker the grey dust layer becomes, though it is still a thin layer amongst the ash.

About 500 meters from the hill you notice small bits of debris from the trees that grow larger the closer you get to the hill.

At the base of the hill you notice that many of the trees have been broken towards the down hill slope. The trees still standing are either very large in diameter or smaller and younger trees.

What do you do now?

Seems as if something pushed the hill up. Perhaps not the best source of shelter, then.

Should we try investigating the city instead?
