Check which way the wind's blowing. If it's toward us, get the hell out of dodge. If not, we can probably afford to wait until tomorrow.

[Yay, a topic I'm knowledgeable in! Also rip several million people.]
[based off all the fighting and stuff most were probably dead to begin with...not that it makes it any better]

(If that was a city full of Dubai-big buildings, several million would be the survivors.)

(I mean, even NYC has like ten million people. Dubai-sized buildings used as apartment blocks would let you have a lot more than that.)

(Well, yes with the facility, but a city just got nuked, that's a different scale entirely.)

Additionally, we should get the car behind the crest of the hill so the shockwave doesn't blow out the windows. We'll likely be fine if the flash only felt warm and didn't hurt out eyesight.

We may be in a new kind of shit now.

+1

If the wind is coming towards us, we need to drive perpendicular to the wind then drive in a semicircle around the city. We would need to get to the other side in the case of the wind direction being a regular feature of the area.

((Thanks. And it's no longer borked.)) We can only hope to get as far as we can before the radiation eventually finds its way to us and ends our life in a miserable heap of melting flesh and fallen hair.

(((yah, my first ideal was let's get into a building with good walls before I remembered the shock wave that comes and went "ohhhhhh yahhhhhh" like the bill from the end of I'm just   bill except maybe 2 times more stupid....I'm rambling at this point, but you get the gist))

[Well, no. If we were close enough for the shockwave to actually do us too much direct harm, we'd be blind from the flash and unable to get away in time to survive. This way as long as we don't go near the blast site within the year or eat fallout for breakfast, we should be pretty okay.]

[Ah okay, good point, though I wonder, depending on if we are down wind from it we may have an issue in a couple hours to a day (don't judge me, I'm not a physicist, I'm a guy who programs for a minecraft server)]

Spoiler: Semi-derail NukeSci (click to show/hide)

[We will obviously want to think about the questions of whether this actually is a nuke, and not something weird and sci-fi, and if our character would know any of this to act on.]

It might simply be a thermobaric explosive on a grand scale. ((Though nukes would (technically?) Be considered thermobaric, there is a slight difference. In that, one leaves a radioactive zone where nothing survives longer than a few minutes, the other just destroys everything and burns the entire area to dust. In the event of it being nuclear, we stay the fk away from it. If it's a normal boring thermobaric, I assume it would be okay for someone like ourself to head there as soon as next week and not worry about radiation poisoning rendering us into a slowly dying pile of cancer and malignant mutations.))
