Stay in houses/Travel with companions, also copper sucks. Either way, Bogeymen are easy to avoid and when you are great as a fighter and specific weapons they die REALLY fast.

the reason is they have natural skills set to professional,
basically your fighting level 10 night creatures who are smaller than a fluffy wambler and those things can take out a bronze colossus.

you're better off just playing a spider-person and using their skills to take out anyone at night.
because they have [nofear] in their raws and bogeymen just straight up ignore those races.
also the barn scorpion men are ignored as well.

If you have the skill, it is easy. As strong as they are at attack, they're so fragile you could bisect them with a lower body hack, then *poof*.

Can also bash them with a platinum war hammer you stole from your own fort, launching them into trees, thus beginning my long illustrious career of finding new ways to watch people die, from a good safe distance.

If you have the skill, it is easy.
That's the biggest point, as long as your adventurer is not experienced enough by killing hundred of things to have high weapon/dodge/armor/shield skills, an encounter with boogeymen will only mean your character demise, as most of your attack will miss and most of their attack will hit, chip a bone and render you unconscious.

But that said, even a starting character can get extremely lucky sometime, i had an early df2014 mortally wounded by a bogeyman that suddenly thought it was a good idea to be a super warrior out of the blue.

By being very lucky has of course its limits, considering you are never fighting a single bogeyman (that is near impossible enough for starting characters) but multiple ones.

Now without counting on luck, in df2014 i had starting characters being able to survive 3 bogeyman using the multiattack exploit, that was the main way to deal with the overpowered df2014 undead too

Can't say if it still works in 42.x , not playing adventure mode anymore.

Not sure about exploit, but yes, multiattack+dodge in a direction works fine.

I mean I kinda wrote up a paragraph on bogies and you but so far boogeymen research kinda been mined unless there's a new discovery with them.

I mean you could write poems til the sun comes up.
and you should be able to convert dead bogeymen into zombie bogeymen if you time reanimating them just as you finish killing the last one and the cackling ends.
The raw file for nightcreature bogeyman is now usable for Civs and interactions now so you could make a bogeyman civ that teaches summoning/binding night creatures.
players with the bogeyman Tag won't have issues with going inside or the sun, just when the cackling arrives. Then they are kinda dead if the cackling ends so either make an interaction that removes the Tag during the cackling or play adventure mode HARD edition.

That said it goes repeating

oh and bogeymen could pop up with wings and fluffy feathers. they're like tiny micro demons that punch you in the ankles to death but only if you don't have 6 hands and really small.
wait checking the raws aren't jumping spiders and brown recluse spiders like 1 to bogeymen 500 in size department? so spider people are like pikmin size?

When you're novice and most vulnerable is when you should be using smarter survival tactics, that's the nature of the game. You know how bogeymen operate, so you know how to avoid or exploit them. You can never be quite sure when you're ready to face them, so have a plan when you do. Opponents aren't all supposed to just fall down when you hack at them.

I find them a bit easier in this version then when they came out. My personal tactic for dealing with them (I tend to use martial artists who are vampires, so YMMV), is climb a tree first. They aren't great climbers, and tend to spend most of the combat climbing and clinging to branches, while I hop around (jumping in trees works really well) scratching throats and kicking heads.

While climbing, they are so slow they cannot dodge precise shots very well and end up dying quickly, since they are so small and fragile.

Trees severely inhibit their dodging, which is good.

Some of them fly, though it's not that common. Sleeping ~4 z-lvls above the region's average altitude reduces the risk by a lot. They can't see you or path to you, but as long as you don't move they won't teleport on you, so you're not threatened enough to prevent going back to sleep. If you misjudge the height or if you get a flyer spawning, then you could be screwed.

They are the cackling hate in the night that likely causes the intelligent races to make civilization in year 0.
