On the 'Rey is a clone' theory, does anyone think that if Episode 8 does a version of the Cave of Evil (Luke against himself in Vader armor), will Rey fight another clone of herself in the facility she was cloned?

a post on why kylo ren is great because he's emo

tl;dr because the movie doesn't play dramatic music over his temper tantrums

I'm leaning more towards Rey being Luke's daughter. I noticed in my second viewing that Luke is standing over a single grave when we see him at the end and he has a distraught look on his face when he looks at Rey. Given all the hints, I'll be very surprised if she's not his daughter.

Right thaaaaat's the third thing I disliked about the movie:

Rei OP pls nerf.

Before she develops her force powers she's alright, a little bland, but then she suddenly does a mind trick on a stormtrooper - where the fuck she learn that? Han ain't tell her shit about no mind trick, nothing shown on screen told her shit about what the Jedi could do, how'd she suddenly 'lol I are not teh droidz ur lookng fr'? And then she inexplicably starts displaying other force powers - I forget, does she force push someone at some point?

She starts kicking the ass of a trained dark side acolyte in a lightsaber fight after the dude says 'the force'. Admittedly the point of Kylo is to be a fuckup, but still. It felt like a plot contrivance to me, handing her the powers she needed to get out of her trouble without any good explanation as to how she learned them. I mean shit, even Luke took a good few months of training to be worth shit in a fight, how the hell does Rei start pulling force powers she doesn't even know exist out of her ass like this?

This is incidentally how I formulated the theory that she's a Skywalker in some form, because all of them have endegered this form of distaste in me.

I assume she knows about Jedi powers through tales. After all, she seems to know all about Han and Luke and the rest even if she didn't think it was real. I agree being able to just do those things off the bat is rather far fetched, considering how long it took Luke to even be able to force pull his saber despite some training from Obi-wan. But it at least explains a bit on how she'd know such things were possible.

As for the combat, I did realize one thing that made it make more sense. Kylo Ren was specifically trying NOT to kill her. He was ordered to bring her to Snoke. So he was trying, while injured, to subdue a woman while in a Lightsaber duel with her. Those things aren't exactly ideal for non-lethal combat.

Rey starts off the movie with much better combat skills than Luke, though. She's already kicking ass with her staff-thing on Jakku. Add a little Force - not actual lightsaber skills, as is obvious from BASH BASH BASH - and a lot of rage, and voila, Kylo goes down.

And yeah, Kylo is pretty badly wounded by that stage and seems to be powering himself purely by... punching his wounds. I guess he needs the pain to stay angry. Pffft.

And she does specifically mention having heard legends of the Jedi, IIRC.

Eh, people suddenly becoming absurdly competent is just the kind of thing that happens in a universe where one of the universal constants is alive and likes to possess people.
Think of it like Armok.

(Ten pages behind... might have already been said.)
I like the concept behind Snoke but his look is just...horribly fake looking. Probably one of my least favorite thing in the movie, really. He just kinda looked out of place amidst all the really good special effects.
When it came to the destruction of the world and the collapsing of the "throne cavern", it's made quite obvious that this is his hologram (or something very similar) so it is fake.

And, rather than being genuinely a larger being, like the Goblin King in The Hobbit who is the biggest guy by far (either because he is, or making him, the guy in charge), I suspect it'll end up more like a Wizard Of Oz 'ignore the man behind the curtain' thing.  Ren probably knows the truth (whatever it might be), but it'll certainly impress the First Order proles, perhaps even the smarmy "it's all my fault, I am to blame, I take all responsibility" general.  (He's gotta be good at toadying. He obviously was practised at the diverting of possible wrath away from Ren, to make him such an invaluable sidekick to the second-biggest-bad in the galaxy...)

Well, it wasn't the size that bugged me. I figured that was just the hologram. But it was the really fake looking face that bugged me. Could be a trick of some sort but it didn't really seem that way to me.

It's probably something to do with scaling and resolution and whatever.  In-universe, at least.
Out-of-universe, I agree, it does look kind of fake.

Alternatively, it IS fake.
