Also, I found the scene at the end a bit annoying. It broke up the flow of the denouement and did little except give Luke a non-speaking cameo. They should have ended it on the previous scene, but then of course the fanboys would complain about Luke's absence. Maybe use it as a post-credit teaser instead.

I had that thought too. Seemed to make the movie go on just a bit after it should have ended. And while it was a nice ending shot it didn't really fit the flow of the movie to do that. Although it may be necessary for whatever time lapse is in place between the two movies.

I loved it. Got to see it a day early as a "journalist", which was pretty sweet - in 3d, for free. I was grinning like an idiot the whole time. I saw Han dying from a mile away. They made the most of him and then let him go in an appropriate and story-driving way. I also saw the whole "30 seconds of Mark Hamill" thing coming - his name was on the posters so he had to be in it, but I knew he wouldn't do much of anything. Overall, I thought it all came together quite well. It felt like a film made by Star Wars fans rather than by a greedy old bastard who just wants to sell more action figures. And I thought the new characters were really well-done. All of the characters, in fact. All of them felt more real. Everything about it felt more real than any other Star Wars film.

And no, it's not even remotely realistic. But if you want to talk about realism, how can people travel faster than light speed with no relativistic effects? Nothing about the Star Wars universe makes any actual sense, but it doesn't matter, because it's about the story, the characters, just getting caught up in the magic of it like I did when I was a little kid and saw the originals for the first time.

One thing I'm surprised I'm not hearing more about is the sense of scale. Maybe it was because I saw it in 3d (something I normally don't like - it usually gives me motion sickness - but in this case I think they filmed it just the right way to make it work), but I feel like for the first time I got a true feeling for how BIG everything was. It was amazing.

"So how do we blow it up? There's always a way to do that."

I think J.J. Abrams did a great job, and I'm relieved to see the lack of lens flares (which have been replaced with bits and fragments of debris flying around all the time). I can't wait for the next one. In fact, I plan to go see this one again. And I can't wait for everyone I know to hurry up and see it so I can finally talk about it in public. My sign language teacher keeps trying to get me to give him spoilers... Asking questions like: "Do you think Harrison Ford will continue in the series?" So I taught him the word "spoilers" and then told him "no spoilers." Not gonna happen, dude. Go see it for yourself.

Re: Rey not struggling with the Dark Side - I definitely think that's going to be part of her arc in the next movie(s). Look at how aggressive she is in the duel! Mad bashing with angry scowling - she has a moment of Force-brought serenity and then just goes wild for the rest of the scene. Snoke will no doubt try to corrupt her, but I'm hoping it'll be more interesting than that.

I'd be disappointed if she didn't struggle with the Dark Side. I mean, Luke's lightsaber foreshadowed that as subtly as a bull in a china shop.

There's an even better video, which is in Spanish. You see, in Spain, the same actor who voice-dubbed James Earl Jones, voice-dubbed Clint Eastwood  in Heartbreak Ridge. Which allows to seamlessly allow scenes in which vader suddenly strays from his lines and starts verbally abusing everyone around him. Such as this:

Quote
Moff Jerjerrod: Lord Vader. This is an unexpected pleasure. We are honored by your presence.

Darth Vader: You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I am here to put you back on schedule.

Jerjerrod: I assure you, Lord Vader, my men are working as fast they can.

Vader: If you ladies think that you can slip and slide just because your last sergeant was a pussy, well queer bait, you're going to start acting like Marines right now! You all may as well go into town tonight. You may as well laugh and make fools out of yourselves. Rub your pathetic little peckers against your honies or stick it in a knothole in the fence but whatever it is, get rid of it. Because at 0600 tomorrow your ass is mine.

Anyone else seriously weirdest out by Stormtrooper free will issues? Finn was perfectly happy to start killing his old comrades without mention. Normally, that's not a big deal, because Stormtroopers aren't real people, but if Finn gets to be real, then that's a lot of bodies he put down. Also, he acts awfully normal after he's done being a trooper, considering that that's supposedly the only thing he's ever done.

I feel like it could have been very easily explained in about two lines of dialogue. The First Order is using iffy equipment to train their dudes (considering there isn't an empire any more to provide a recruits), so once the indoctrination fails, the whole imprint fails catastrophically.

And the Resistance really needed to be explained better. I mean, it's Star Wars, but explaining the balance of power between resistance, Republic, and First Order should have been done in the title crawl.

Yeah, there are a bunch of little things that could use some good explanation.

Didnt like it that much. It's not terrible, but not good also.

The things I didint like is the very dumb plot, and its even worse as its reused dumb and lazy plot. Acting/characters are a mixed bag. The good guys are ok, except the eccentric fin that really doesnt act like a military person that was feed by propaganda all this years and tries to much to be comic relief for the movie.

The bigger problem are pretty much all the bad guys. The main bad guy, kylo ren is miscast for the role, and that young general that acts so much stiff also. They both look extremely inappropriate for the role they play.

The whole movie is to fast, with characters bonding with each other also to fast. A fucking hole rebellion is destroyed with that death star 3. So much lazy story telling.

Music is the worst from all star wars trilogies.

Overall it feel like this movie was not needed really. But how it looks they will be milking the shit out of this, as every year now a new star wars movie will be coming out. Its a bland copy of original movie. At least the prequels tried something new, this one plays to much safe

Ok let's see... Han dies a horrible undeserved death (should have went out like a hero not sith kebab)
Ren is an basically Epic Fail Guy trying to be a sith and screwing up.
His only purpose was to wear a helmet and look like Vader.
And it worked if you squint your eyes and go slightly cross eyed... and then he takes off his mask and no ammount of squinting will make you not see an edgy teen with acne at this point.

Personally i'm annoyed by the polarized nature of the force in the movies and i really wish to see a grey/neutral jedi for once being important.
I don't know Ren dancing to take the middle route because he can't stomach going pure dark. Maybe that new feminist lead not being 100% light side?
Luke going skylighty darker after all those years of moping and mucking about?

I don't know anything but another Good jedi vs stupidly evil Sith.
Or at least make Snoke Jar Jar binks in disguise to go with the fanon. That would at least redeem the prequels.

One of my friends pointed out that the speech to the First Order army reflected Hitler's more emotional segments. I realized just how comically evil they were after that. :P
