Adam finds that speed is not quite enough given how close the elbow already was, and feels it quite painfully smashing into his ribcage. He might be pushed back, he might not.

Regardless, Calvin twists out of the way (just barely, the punch actually hit off of his magnificent moustache), and either sends another punch if Adam is close enough, or waits and observes Adam again if he was actually pushed back.
