"I wouldn't say necessarily negative, but it'll definitely make people talk to you differently. People are normally more emotive, and think a lot less before speaking. A -lot- less."

"You mean a magical weapon that helpfully cauterizes wounds and lacks a hilt to prevent your hand sliding into its burny bits? Not only is that dangerous, it's also a surprisingly poor choice in weapon."

The room seems dimmer, except for an ever-brighter patch hovering about six inches above Ray's hand.

"You realize that everything also includes your hand, which will probably slip into it without something more substantial to prevent slipping, right? And I'd imagine that "cuts through most things" isn't too unique among magical weapons. That sounds like one of the first things you'd go for, along with "easy to maintain" and "kills very easily".

Oh great, just flat out go for it after you've worn yourself out a bit from a skirmish. This can't possibly go wrong at all."

[SOLDIER First]

"I see.
I will now attempt to be more emotive. Hello. I... believe I am Esi. My opinion is that it is a pleasure to meet you."

"'Hello, I'm Esi, it's a pleasure to meet you' would be better. Don't say it like it's your opinion, say it like it's actually the truth. People are much more obnoxious and self-centered than you think. In fact they're so obnoxious that speaking like that doesn't seem self-centered at all to them. And use contractions in casual conversations like that unless it's for emphasis."

Ray lets go of the ball of light, emitting a bright flash but little heat.

"Or just direct that burst of light and use it to blind people. Press your advantage, don't let them get a chance to fight back. If they're too busy trying to protect themselves, it's only a matter of time before they slip up, and it's probably more efficient in terms of not getting exhausted than trying to conjure a blade of heat.

Or, just keep that blade as is, -they- don't know it's not a lightsaber. Swing it at them, force them on the defensive (no pun intended). Fuck with their head. And if they catch on, dispel and blind."
