A vile force of darkness has arrived!

It was just a single goblin bowman. I wonder what he was thinking when his superiors ordered him to siege the fortress alone.

Capture him. Build a little goblin enclosed outside your fort. He shall send a message to further invaders: "Plan Ahead."

The biggest issue seems to be size.  A 1x1 room would allow for maximum child desecration (waiting on someone to sig that)

You should check his civ. He might have been the last of his kind.

I love you

Try to get him in a cage trap, then chain him up behind a counter at the pub.

Similar things have happened to me numerous time in 0.40.24. Sometimes the message appears, I unpause, and they're gone. Sometimes I see a number of them, unpause, and only one or two remains.
I've heard the hypothesis that they weren't targeting you, but were on the way to somewhere else, and the one(s) left behind were somehow distracted. That theory would also explain why people have had invasions before reaching the invasion triggers.

I had this happen too. I got the message, and (after about a month of waiting) the enemies appeared. There were 3 goblin with crossbows, one of them elite.
They didn't move from their spot and didn't attack traders or guests for about a year, they attacked my dwarves but never moved from their spawn point.

Send out your diplomats and offer him a Dwarven handshake (applied customarily with a swinging a heavy mace to the face)

That was exactly the thing I did.   :D I just had to wait for a caravan (that appeared next to the goblins and walked past them without any reaction) to buy some metals.

You should capture him and put him in a cage that hangs over the dining area.

The exact same thing happened to me, the single goblin archer wandered around, killed my donkey and a wild panda.

I don't know, the dwarves probably prefer they not learn that particular lesson.

That currently can't be done in the last version: reports say goblins are also affected by 9271, "troglodytes [intelligent/untamable animals?] cannot be assigned to a cage or chain"
