Right now we're havin' a
cyclone!Or, well, the very outer reaches of one. Which basically just means a super-windy rainstorm.
It's pretty intense, though! Plus, it should last longer than most of these storms, which start off strong then fade away quickly, lacking any real staying power. It started raining steadily-but-heavily last night, and just a little while ago (it's 6:34 AM) it got really heavy. I noticed the inside cat's worried behaviour, and then it occurred to me that my/my mother's other cat was probably still outside and I became somewhat concerned for his wellfare.
I was just looking out the back window, considering opening it up to call the cat, when I was distracted by multiple noises and occurrences and then suddenly in runs the dog off the front verandah. The door hasn't been closing properly since last night for some reason, so when this storm scared the crap out of her she just barged straight in to seek comfort. Very cute.
So I carried her around for a while, and paid a visit to the other outside cat, who she lives with on the front verandah. He was quite calm, not seeming very worried by the whole thing. When I eventually did go downstairs to look for outside cat #1 (his name is Cassius, for simplicity's sake) it occurred to me that he probably wasn't in any trouble, given that he had plenty of dry, presumably comfortable hiding places under the house. I wandered around, half-heartedly calling but not really expecting to find him, when there he was, standing at the bottom of the stairs staring at me, looking as frightened as I can remember ever seeing him (which isn't saying much, as he's normally pretty much fearless). The first time I tried to escort him upstairs he bolted (back) under the car when the door made a loud noise. I managed to coax him out from there and pick him up.
Once I finally had him upstairs he just shrugged it off, beelined for his favourite chair and resumed business as usual as far as I could tell.
The storm has calmed down a bit now, but hopefully it sticks around. I'll probably sleep and then see what's up.
Oh, and I went out to check the mail as an excuse to be out in it. That was fun.
