I'm going to ask again: is this creature one that arose inside of Omega Base' boundaries?

I thought I had answered this before. The rockcat was on this ground before it was omega. If that doesn't sound possible to you, you and I need to talk metaphysics.

Edit: Oh, and about the mission, Dar would rather not go because he was told there might be another mission to Lathal.  Still, if Aylia or Noir go, he will follow.

Actually, what I would probably do is swing magic into the stat column, and then adjust skills to indicate more generic areas of effect: movement, melee, ranged, mechanical, natural ... These are placeholder examples.

But magic's importance to the system would justify making it a stat over a skill, I think.

See, my problem with this is the fact that you have no explanation for why any of these changes are good ideas.  "I feel like it would be better" is what Piecewise does, and is what resulted in Transcend and Dig's broken 0-90 skill system.

Why would magic as a stat be better?  Because, like all other stats, it applies to every single character and represents an inherent characteristic?  Why would replacing all the skills with vauge generalities be better than just closing the only major exploit?  Because people thought the suggested change was too simple and easy a fix, so more than doubling the work required in a rebalance will make them like it more?

Frankly, this is mildly insulting.  I've provided a long and reasoned explanation, describing both sides of the problem--why it might be a good idea, and why it might be a poor one--and you entirely ignore everything I say by suggesting a more extreme change which is palatable to nobody.  Twice!  More importantly, you did that without actually explaining yourself at all, which makes it seem like you don't want anyone to actually participate in discussion with you, despite having forced yourself into the conversation.

If you don't want to rebalance the game, just say so.  I'd support that decision, as I think it's wiser.  If you do want to rebalance the game, do you mind letting others participate in the decision making process?  It'd probably work out better for you.

Lenglon: I've been treating Giant Frost cat as a form of it's own, though by rights it is a combined form. Being a combined form means I have to roll for cohesion each time you use it and each time stress might make it unbalance one way or the other.

In general, intelligence trumps fey heritage in power ranking. Water nymphs are smaller, simpler beings, like sprites and fairies, and have no dramatic powers to offset that (like Star Sprites' various abilities).

magic stamina involves one's ability to repeatedly use ones magical ability. Will is one's strength of character. the two are not identical in use or in effect. I would require hard or medium hard numbers in order to remain consistent in how magic stamina played out. without them, I would easily over and underestimate the amount of stamina a character had left at any given time. Unless you have a better idea. I agree that it is probably an unnecessary stat though.

body size does govern melee, whether it is implicit or explicit. making it explicit eliminates confusion.

A human with the same spells as Noir would not be a half dragongodling. They would be a human. Just like Aylia is not as powerful as reggie, though reggie could not tap into that power all that much before he succumbed.

I did understand that the discussion was primarily about the skill system and ubiquitousness and power of magic. I simply expanded that conversation, based on a) my original intention and expectations of the game, and b) some other comments that you guys have made over the course of the year and a half the game has been running. there is nothing wrong with that.

yes, magic has been more influential than the other combat skills. Yes, I put some restrictions in place to help offset that. No, I did not maintan that balance well. No, I don't mind magical workarounds that skirt the edges of the rules. I enjoy creative and flexible thinking and role play.

Reducing melee to one stat is a reasonable idea. As is splitting magic into multiple. If the number of skills equals out, great. otherwise, I feel it would be wise to also edit the stats, so that we do not have one leveling scheme for skills and one for stats.

I don't particularly want to make people restat. I only would rebalance if it seemed that the system was unpopular, or if a given rebalance gained traction with the players.
nerfing magic users in relation to melee was part of the point of the rebalance. I'm not convinced that would weaken Omega as a whole though.

rebalancing fixes a problem no one really seems to mind. Dev had little to nothing to do with it. Egan showed a proposed reskill, and you guys started talking about it. I added some of my own ideas. Feedback at this point suggests rebalancing would be unpopular, so why would i force it?

perhaps, instead of saying "vague generalities, we could say "magic and mundane skills" so that ranged attacks, whether by bow or by magic missile, would be governed by the same ranged skill. This means that magic users can't use their magic as a catchall skill to overwrite all other skills. I think it is like this already, but it may not be. as you've said, there are workarounds.

magic might be better as a stat because it applies pretty much to every character, just like strength and will. But, magic is more like a skill in that not everyone uses it. everyone uses strength and will whether they want to or not. But since this is a magic heavy game, and since the debate has been over the balance of magic against all the other skills (though primarily against the combat skills), the move to  the "innate aspects of a person's character" would make sense. But, I think the need for specializations helps offset the isue of one skill being op - it's more like two skills, since specializations determine how the magic works, too.

Nothing wrong with suggesting various changes. If I don't explain the positives and negatives of the change, it's either because I haven't fleshed them out in my mind, I don't know how obvious the benefits aren't, or I expect input from my conversation partners. or maybe I'm just 'throwing it out there,' so that 'anyone' can participate in the discussion, should they so wish.

I don't think I forced myself into the conversation in a thread I created for a game I GM about a system I borrowed in order to run that game. I feel like I was invited.

I don't particularly want to rebalance, though I am not exactly opposed. sometimes shaking things up is a good way to stir the pot and spark some ideas, dialogue, and growth.

@twinwolf: you have one too many pluses in both stats and skills for the number of minuses. Otherwise, the character looks good. are you interested in going on the mission back to where Ebony died? Or would the other mission - to combat a magic plague - be preferable?

If I can find Noir, I'd like to try to acquire her again. I know she was non-acquirable before, but I mean, I've gotten better at it now, right? and she does have that healing magic... and even if the magic isn't copyable, the large flyer form would be pretty cool to have.

I want to try to construct a form for myself, that uses generic human as a baseline, but that is as good looking / charismatic / persuastive as possible while still staying visually within human norms. I'm thinking it'd be a mix of Human and water nymph? or at least that seems like a place a start from.

Dark sparks rage across your scales and fire and hatred burn in your eyes. Action roll vs reaction roll (1) v (6) you lash out, but Noir is already back, out of the room. You roar.

Aylia changes before your very eyes. She grows wings. She starts to look like you for a moment. and then her scales darken, her eyes redden and her snout lengthens. You back away in horror, just as one long claw lashes out to strike you.
