Egan, be nice. Noir has been barely-functional from the get-go, and has only 1 mission less than our most veteran characters. ATH is being readonable in wanting her to be able to accomplish something. Right now the only noteworthy thing she's done is not die, and that with help from allies. Remember that not everyone is optimal, both in builds and in playstyles, and if you focus overmuch on optimization and balance you will kill off suboptimal characters. possibly literally.

This right here is why balance is stupid and assholey to focus on in a RP-based environment.

Noir addmitedly has had one of the shittist times. her entire resume so far in the mortal plane is

-Came into world
-Banged farmer girls
-Met hot chick aylia
-Got recruited into omega.
-Got laughed at.
-Got covered in fesces
-Nearly had only friends die.
-Nearly got killed by aylia one of her only friends.
-Lived due to gms good graces.

-Got back to base oocly kinda dident want her on any missions due to wanting her to let the fact she nearly died sink in.

-Got sent on mission basically did nothing that mission besides get hurt and fell in love with jack.
-Banged jack

-Next mission: loses jack twice! Gets devil wish on her that became entirely pointless. Nearly starved to death. Killed almost everybody. Almost lost Hope. Lost ebony who saved her life.

-Almost retired her.

It's a spell list:

Inorganic Druidism
Know the Land: Communicate with the spirit of the earth in order to gain information about past events. Inorganic spirits live for a very long time, and know much. For this very reason, their perception of time differs from living creatures. Something that happened fifty years ago is "just now", and difficult to discern from events that happened just last week.

Return to Nature: Constructs created by unnatural means, such as those created by mortal wizards can be rendered immobile by allowing their material components  to return to their natural, immobile state. This will not harm the construct's core.

Petition the Earth: The earth itself can provide a momentary boost of enormous power. However, this will require the agreement of nature, and will cause the biome's spirit to sleep for quite some time, potentially lifetimes for mortal beings.

Stoneform
Rest: Rockcat lowers its body to the ground, and rests just beneath the surface. Allows for regeneration of energy and life force, but might take a long time by biological standards. Can only be performed while in direct contact with a large body of stone. Soil must be dug through first if present.

Pounce: Rockcat rapidly reforms to fly through the air a short distance. Not much faster than a normal cat's pounce, but of course with more momentum. This is Rockcat's fastest form of movement, but requires a small amount of energy.

Reform: Rockcat can reform to take on any shape, but shapes mimicking animals or other living things are much easier. Shapes larger than a cat will require extra time and access to stone in order to grow. These alternative forms do not retain any special abilities held by the animal being mimicked; a stone nose cannot smell, and stone wings cannot fly. Moderate energy requirement.

Reform Landscape: Stone and other inorganic aspects of the natural landscape can be made to move (though begrudgingly), for the purposes of creating new pathways or attacking. Can only be done if the earth is willing, and drains high energy from both rockcat and the biome itself.

I'm in the camp of leaving things as is, for what little my opinion is worth in this discussion. Though I'm fine either way. Just don't fall into the pit some games sometimes fall in of rewriting your systems so much the actual game begins to suffer.

What are "Lathalian powers"?  Just stuff related to the armor, moss, and metalcat form?  Or can Dar now use his nature magic on normal metals?

I'd still like that answered, since I'm really not sure.

Dar starts to panic as soon as his moss starts to wither, but is interrupted by the rock cat emerging into his little cave.  He backs away carefully, quickly realizing the nature of the being, and his voice is low and respectful when he speaks "Has this one angered spirit?  It is very sorry, it did not mean to alter harmfully; Dar'yajira simply believed this cave to be good for preserving life.  It apologizes, and will leave."

Dar's actual action is to slowly walk out of the cave, very carefully.  He thinks he accidentally pissed off some local nature spirit, and is treating Rockat as such.  Since Rockat has accepted his presence, Dar will stay and politely converse rather than retreat.  While doing so, he will carefully channel a bit of mana into the fungus, just trying to keep it alive for now.

"So quick to judge. Do not be afraid; I am not here to confront you. I ask that you instead stay, and converse?"

Remain still for now.

easy, there, guys. All this rebalancing talk is speculative. Purely optative/hypothetical mood, not indicitive or imperative mood.

Mission offering: there is a magical plague. it needs investigated and hopefully eliminated at the source. It is strongly suspected that there is a source that is generating and exacerbating the plague and that if said source were countered, the plague would run it's course and fade out.

Noir blink's and then quietly shakes their head it was time to get something to damn drink. The blankness had been kinda nice...relaxing she supposed. She needed to head back.
Fly back to the damn canyon. Get something to drink. Resolve to never bold text meditate again. Should be quick considering its a canyon and she's in the middle of the desert and not blind.

(( Welp time to just head back after finding nothing
Uniqueness stat seems kinda meh to me. Plus it would most likely take away two of noirs points.))
You really should stop telling the GM what should and shouldn't happen. He might be tempted to roll for it. Do you want the GM to roll for it?

You walk back to the canyon rim, legs and throat burning. And also sunburned. Blisters, yeaugh.

I think I should try to fill one of my ability gaps if I can. If I could find a form capable of healing... can plantbeing or water nymph? probly not, I'll have to find such a form. If I can find a species of healers here around Omega...

Since number of forms is becoming an issue, I'm going to drop goldfish form if I do find an acquireable healer form, just to reduce clutter some, though I expect the healer form to take more space than goldfish does, I'm not at my limit yet anyway, so it should be fine.

@defineing race - did that already with Aylia, seems a non-issue to me.

@stat rebalance - fairly reasonable on paper, but how would they affect Aylia? It's not like she directly casts stuff. how would it affect passive magic users like her? I'm mostly concerned that she's gonna start getting weird issues with her abilities that never were concerns before.
I do know that if the "magic costs 3x as much to level as any other skill" change goes through, Aylia'll probably never be leveling it again without a defined reason to do so. its just not worth, even for a magic-heavy char. going from +0 to +1 costs as much as another skill's +2 to +3? and from +1 to +2 costs more than another skill's +3 to +4? at those costs, why bother? She'll probably focus unarmed and/or specializations. oh, and we'll never have a real medic. magic healers requiring 4 skills now instead of the already prohibitive 2? yeah, that'll never be a thing.
It's kinda funny actually, now that I have medics on the mind, but it seems like the mission to Lethal contained more medics than any other thus far... and I think the only surviving medic in the game is Noir. What's up with that? Is the "focus the medic" strategy of video games applying to the missions Omega gets sent on? or do we just not get many medics?))
There are no species that are inherently healers.

I'm missing one of your forms. In order of strength, I have:
Giant Frost Cat, Frost Giant, Floaty, Star Sprite (this is the one I was missing)
Natural form, plant person, mermaid,
Human, elf, Frost kitty
sprite, bluebell fairy, water nymph, horse, winged lizard,
raven
goldfish

((Aylia has two abilities that would bump her up the uniqueness list: shapeshifting and power mimic. these would both affect the uniqueness stat.))

It's a spell list:

I'm going to ask again: is this creature one that arose inside of Omega Base' boundaries?

Spoiler: TL:DR LOL (click to show/hide)

...Actual character post coming soon to a thread near you!
I like yelling about fire and brimstone, and the discussion got me thinking about systems. And yes, I do think a lot. You got a problem with that?

Actually, what I would probably do is swing magic into the stat column, and then adjust skills to indicate more generic areas of effect: movement, melee, ranged, mechanical, natural ... These are placeholder examples.

But magic's importance to the system would justify making it a stat over a skill, I think.

((... thank you Sy.))

Lathalan nature is that of a manufactory/warehouse. Worked metal, rubber, concrete, that kind of thing. Electricity. All of that is directed energy toward a purpose - a collective purpose. So, one could not just make a sword hot or turn it into a tree or make it wrap around the weilder's arm. One could introduce manufacturing flaws, but this is counter to the typical Lathalian purpose in the same way that raising undead is counter to the Natural order. One could draw ore from the ground and smelt it int iron ingots, though, provided there were a purpose beyond individual use. For example, if one were escorting a caravan, one could make horseshoes and harnesses for the group as a whole in order to reach a destination, but one couldn't necessarily make asingle cup from which to drink out of a stream because he was thirsty.

Am up for mission, would also be up for returning to Lathal with Dar.

If I can find Noir, I'd like to try to acquire her again. I know she was non-acquirable before, but I mean, I've gotten better at it now, right? and she does have that healing magic... and even if the magic isn't copyable, the large flyer form would be pretty cool to have.

I want to try to construct a form for myself, that uses generic human as a baseline, but that is as good looking / charismatic / persuastive as possible while still staying visually within human norms. I'm thinking it'd be a mix of Human and water nymph? or at least that seems like a place a start from.

your list is not accurate. Giant Frost Cat is not an actual form. It is a combo-form of Frostcat and Frost Giant. Aylia just has plenty of practice with it, as far as I'm aware. Aylia has 16 forms, not 17.
If Giant Frost Cat is an actual form of hers, then that changes things in my mental bookkeeping of what Aylia can do.

I'm surprised by the power listing as well. why is mermaid so far up? Natural could be placed anywhere, depending on interpretation, so that doesn't really surprise me, and the top row all makes sense to me, but I expected water nymph and mermaid to have swapped locations. I would have Aylia do testing of mermaid and water nymph forms and such, but the desert location of Omega makes such testing prohibitive.
((Answered below, struckthrough for bookkeeping))
