I think what people are reporting as an "impossible to pit goblins" in this version issue is a feature not a bug: I think it was introduced a few updates ago to simulate prisoner escapes. They try to escape every step and eventually succeed almost inevitably.

Not so, sentient creatures simply do not appear on the pit/chain list of creatures now. I have also seen this issue reported on the bug tracker :)

I'm not sure if what you mean is goblins escaping as they are being escorted to their doom, because that has been possible for a long time--it happens when an escorting dwarf is interrupted by something en route to the destination.

If you are in a freezing biome dig a small 1x1x3 deep pit near the serface, pit 'em, and a few undesirable creatures, before designateing the pit as a pond in winter (may require another water source). for bonus points pelt em with the remains of other goblins.

So I have built the torture rooms and started my poor captives endless torture and I have decided to turn that torture into a bit of a short story. This is from the perspective of the goblins I captured
Ngebzo the one who killed the queen, Mato the one who killed my legendary smith and Bax the one who killed my favorite axe lord.

Mato was terrified he and his 2 friends had been locked up for months in a dark room bound by cages, It had been months since he and the entire royal goblin army were wiped out or captured, having attempted to liberate the trapped goblin family the filthy dwarfs had locked inside. Now Mato only had Bax and Ngebzo to comfort him in the tiny closet the dwarfs had called his prison, he could scarcely move his legs without hitting the metallic sides of his cage. He didn't Know what the dwarfs  were planing but it couldn't be good.

After months of near silence a quite mad looking dwarf entered the small room where the goblins were kept. FOUL CREATURES YOUR DAY OF RECKONING HAS COME, GUARDS TAKE THEM TO ROOM 101 the foul little creature screeched. And so with a lot of hustle and bustle The goblins were thrown into a quite larger room and released from their cages, Unfortunately the door behind them had been locked by the foul dwarfs to ensure the goblin trio couldn't escape. the goblins stood there for a while waiting for the dwarfs to return with some sought of terrifying torture device, but what they did  was far far worse.

Bax noticed it first, screaming coming from what looked like some form of air vent. Prepared for some sort of poison gas we all covered our mouths and huddled in the corners of the room. We stopped huddling in the corner when the first body dropped exploding into a fine red mist covering the us and the room in blood guts and teeth, and by the 10th we had gotten used to corpses of wild animals being dropped in the room, that was until they started dropping goblins. And the dwarf scum wouldn't even drop them from a fatal height making sure each one landed crippled and broken but alive. Ngebzo broke first and with a cry of "Death is all around us I must flee" and fled through the now unlocked door. The two of us seeing our chance bax and I fled too.

Right into another room that looked just like the previous one, except the added addition of floor grates. Odd but not the end of the world this room was my chance so I bravely clambered up the so called air vent. When suddenly a loud crash of red "water" rushed down the "air vent" pushing me forcefully, luckily I didn't break any bones and neither did my companions as they struggled to stay on top of the rising water. I barely survived myself gasping for air whenever I could I thought this was the end, I wished this was the end because what came next made these two ordeals trivial. The water eventually subsided flowing through the floor grates. And as all three of them gasped for air another door unlocked. Seeing another chance The trio fled through the door. This was a mistake. "ARCHERS TAKE AIM, STEADY FIRE!"  the mad little dwarf from before screeched and the 3 goblins were immediately pelted by swarms of wooden arrows, again and again and again for hours. The weak wooden tips of the arrows only able to penetrate the most minuscule parts of the body. Never the less the 3 goblins after days of being pelted fell unconscious covered in bruises cuts and with their faces really really messed up. Mato lost a eye, bax lost both of his ears and Ngebzo was covered in scars ugly even for a goblin.

So the three were left to heal for awhile until the mad little dwarf grew impatient and got his guards to dig a deep pit and throw the vile goblins down it. With the goblins legs broken the mad little dwarfs first stage of revenge was nearly finished.

Crawling desperately away the goblins went into the final stage of REVENGE part 1. Locked in new cages they were put in a grand looking room fit for the finest of taverns. "YOU GOBLIN SCUM WILL LEARN YOUR LESSON IF I AINT LORD ZULBAN!" the mad dwarf screeched. 'YOU TOOK THE ONLY PERSON I EVER LOVED AWAY FROM ME SO IM GONNA TAKE SOMETHING FROM YOU, GUARDS RELEASE THE... ELF!"

Quickly the dwarfs fled the room locking all the doors and going far away from the worst torture chamber of them all.

The elf stood before them and Mato ever cocky declared this the worst torture session ever, he regretted that when the elf started doing poetry

"ROSE'S ARE RED
VIOLETS ARE VIOLET
NOT FUCKING BLUE
TREES ARE AWESOME
AND YOU SHOULD APPRECIATE THAT TOO"

Only one of them could say anything to this, this monstrosity.

"It was inevitable" said Ngebzo.

So what do you guys think should i write more story's like this? any criticism is welcome

In this version Tavern floors are covered with vomit.  The best way to have a somewhat "clean" Tavern is to make the floors grates so the vomit filters through to the next level.  Break their legs and put them on the floor beneath your Tavern so they can be puked on by your citizens and guests.

I did only once something so cruel as you... And it was in most recent version.

I had great tavern. Quest has been coming and leaving happy. Then siege happend. My dorfs just locked under the earth, but it was above ground tavern, i locked the doors, but trolls was with goblins.

I realized something very strange, one of my quest was blinking. It was my female elf hero from adventure mode, which was traveling by whole world looking for books and stuff with her group. She never killd anyone, because she was pacifist. I started diging, but trolls was faster. My xbow squad did not stoped them before They ran into tavern… Goblins General with her bow managed to headshot my Bards Queen, but poorly for her, she survived long enough to be trapped by one of the tunnel cage traps.

From the 78 atacking goblins, only 10 survived, 3 of them bleed to death shorty after being caged from injures. The General survived, i striped her and her fellows. I prepared 3x3x3 room, where i relased her (general) from cage. She did not even tried to climb - walls has been smothed. She was standing on middle of this pit waiting when… first minecart with remains and goblin corpses droped whole load into the room. It was trully terrifing. All dead goblins and other remains (spoiled food, vermin corpses, hairs) has been transported into his  pit. Then all this stuff start to create miasma… She spend there 5 years, before other goblins manage to wipe out my population…

When i managed to sneak into this fortress 3 months later i didn't find her. Legends are not stating anything about her too…
