It was an avatar fad, I think it was "old pictures of guys with beards." I have no real connection to communism, I just like the beard, and can relate somewhat to the right hand man that had a major hand in things but nobody really remembers.
Are you now, or have you ever been, an old guy with a beard?

I have a full beard (not as full as the one in the picture, but still respectable,) but I'm not an old guy. Yet.

Mine is a design I put together based on a piece of origami. It is tattooed on my left arm. Mr_Ham97 digitized it for me. He has not been active since 2010.

Avatar is Nyarlathotep from Haiyore Nyaruko-san.

Now, I'm a regular at pixiv and such and occasionally translate things for those that can't read mewn runes, and undoubtedly had to do a lot of Nyaruko stuff.

Then I came across the game "Chapter Master". It's one of the few games where I actually put some thought into making a character. Unlike TES or Fallout, where I just hit random and then continued.

The avatar was just a quick mock-up that came as an extra.

And yet, in an anime about Lovecraftian monsters, there would appear to be a serious lack of naughty tentacles.

I've been wondering what that was.

Mine is a logo for Persona 5 from the internet. Persona 5 is a videogame in development, and I had just read something about it when I made the account.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Well, Short of the Innsmouth storyline, the cosmic invaders are more interested in exploiting humans as slaves and or worshippers than as love puppets.

The Mi-Go for instance, just want your brain, so they can put it inside a mechanical construct to do hard labor on Pluto.

I may speak and write your most common language but I'll never understand Westerners.

People torn apart by horrors? It must be a day that ends in "day" in western fiction.
Horrible monsters turned into girls? Holy Ilias, how horrifying.

@Blaze: Lovecraft is horror.
This stuff is exactly the opposite.
There's some rather severe cognitive dissonance involved.

It's more that they made a light romantic comedy out of a body of work that is supposed to be filled with dread and insanity and bleakness.
And yes, that they turned horrific, sanity-destroying monsters into kawaii Japanese schoolgirls.

Usually, we prefer it the other way around, that they turn Japanese schoolgirls into horrific, sanity-destroying monsters (which Japan has also done, and quite well).

Mine is a knot I assembled out of a Trefoil and an Endless Knot. At one point I was planning on running a tabletop RPG with significant time travel shenanigans, and a knot seemed like an appropriate visual metaphor for the timeline. Never got around to it, but I liked the aesthetics of the form and have been updating it every now and again as I get ideas to make it look nicer.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
