After making a mental note to procure an engineers kit I begin actively looking around at people and shops. I'm looking for something akin to pawn shop or a scrapyard of some sort where I could get some broken or outdated tech for cheap, but I'm doing so leisurely. I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for things that interest me and generally enjoying the nice day. I also think about what I know of this city (as I've lived on this pangea planet all my life I should know a few general facts and trivia about the culture and the city. Maybe .)

(Are you fucking kidding me?)You pass bunker-like abodes typical of newer settlements. The majority of them have a slot of cut-out ground, forming stairs that lead half-a-man-tall into the ground, the building on the outside being half-a-man-tall by typical measurements. Some of these buildings are very small, some very large, a few being multistory above ground and most likely, many of them being multistory underground.
Stores and other public places typically have an above-ground "second" floor used for setting up shop and bar, the ground floor being led to somewhere behind a locked door into the owner's abode. One such place has a glowtube sign overhead "Junk Dealer". You approach the tender on their open-front shop as he tinkers with something over the counter.
The man wears typical labourer's clothes; dirty, padded and pocketed clothing with thin undergarments. His face is rugged and his hair kept stubbly - a great crest of a scar runs over his scalp from forehead to somewhere on the dark side of his uncertain face. As he notices your approach, the grizzled man turns a faint smile in greeting. "Hey, stranger. Looking for anything in particular?"
Edit;
FYI, whilst you guys don't have any constant communication connections set up just yet, if you needed to contact one another (i.e.; gather up, we're leaving, or whatever) you can always "call" or "message" one another via posting.
