Saxson envies the rep's considerable facial control as his own smile begins slipping.  "Please do, Jenny.  I think this is the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial partnership." Hmm.  Maybe they would still be willing to throw them a bone.

Ask to be transfered.  Saxson can always try the shtick again with the next guy.

Dante embarks on an inventive, imprecation-filled tirade against the ship merchant, ship designer, ship itself, and anyone who would design any computerized weapon system that is not easily adjusted, zeroed, and boresighted.

He resigns to do it the hard/easy way as soon as a promising target presents itself, then leaves the harbor, looking for a bar or bookstore to find either paying work, a good technical manual for the ship or turret, or sufficient alcohol to make up for the previous two absences.

After making a mental note to procure an engineers kit I begin actively looking around at people and shops. I'm looking for something akin to pawn shop or a scrapyard of some sort where I could get some broken or outdated tech for cheap, but I'm doing so leisurely. I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for things that interest me and generally enjoying the nice day. I also think about what I know of this city (as I've lived on this pangea planet all my life I should know a few general facts and trivia about the culture and the city. Maybe  :P.)

Luck Roll. Difficulty 4. Result: 10 (Are you fucking kidding me?)

You pass bunker-like abodes typical of newer settlements. The majority of them have a slot of cut-out ground, forming stairs that lead half-a-man-tall into the ground, the building on the outside being half-a-man-tall by typical measurements. Some of these buildings are very small, some very large, a few being multistory above ground and most likely, many of them being multistory underground.
Stores and other public places typically have an above-ground "second" floor used for setting up shop and bar, the ground floor being led to somewhere behind a locked door into the owner's abode. One such place has a glowtube sign overhead "Junk Dealer". You approach the tender on their open-front shop as he tinkers with something over the counter.

The man wears typical labourer's clothes; dirty, padded and pocketed clothing with thin undergarments. His face is rugged and his hair kept stubbly - a great crest of a scar runs over his scalp from forehead to somewhere on the dark side of his uncertain face. As he notices your approach, the grizzled man turns a faint smile in greeting. "Hey, stranger. Looking for anything in particular?"

Edit;
FYI, whilst you guys don't have any constant communication connections set up just yet, if you needed to contact one another (i.e.; gather up, we're leaving, or whatever) you can always "call" or "message" one another via posting.

Jenny's smile doesn't flinch. Well-groomed blonde hair and wide, long-lashed brown eyes and rosey cheeks that aren't overpowering on a well-crafted face. "Not a problem at all. Thank you for your time, you've been speaking to Jenny and I'll pass you through now. Thank you; have a nice day!"

The pearly teeth disappear and after a moment on hold, whilst not as "overly, strangely, perfect", a handsome-enough dark-skinned man with groomed pitch-black hair appears. "Good afternoon you're through to Jenson at SilverCorp Recruitment Department, leading provider of galactic-wide logistics for pharmaceuticals. Jenny has just passed you through to me, I believe you're looking to sign up to our third-party courier employment sector, is that correct?"

He seems just as overly pleasant as Jenny, but has a varying tone in his voice that implies he might actually be human.

((A bar is a given on practically any settlement; carry on as if you've found one if that is what you seek. There's not much I can give feedback on in the result of finding this.))

Saxson was glad to be transfered to a more believable human.  Who knows, perhaps SilverCorp's customer service department was staffed exclusively by androids.  The thought was oddly off-putting for the engineer.

"Hi there Jenson, that's pretty close.  We'd certainly be interested in courier work, depending on the specifics, but we're also available for other types of work as well.  What do you have available?"

Communicate the above to the likely human.

Jenson's smile is enhanced by a friendly sparkle in his eye. "I see. Do you have a crew? If so, I'll take a look at your work histories and see if we have anything suitable. I'll also need to take a look through your vessel's status, capabilities, history, etc."

(Natural ten  8) )

This grizzled man covered in oil and scrap reminds me of the man who raised me. Unlike my father, who left our family to become a space captain  ;), my step father was unkempt and eccentric. We spent many hours bonding in the garage tinkering with robotics and other electronic devices. Some of my most cherished memories are in the garage. After a moment of happy memory recollection (and wearing a stupid grin on my face) I snap back to the present. "Oh no, not really. I'm doing a few ship repairs, just bought a fix-er-upper if you know what I mean. Yup, looking to replace a few broken terminals with some old tech. They just don't make it like they used to with all this new fangled stuff coming out of the war. Its just not my cup of tea. Well neither is tea I guess. Anyhow, I'm also looking for some junk to tinker with on my own time. I got myself a little bit of a robotics hobby. Cheap, interesting, and or broken, that's basically what I'm after now-a-days. Hell, Even the jobs I'm looking for fall into one of those categories. " I say this last bit with a little bit of a smile on my face. While I ramble I meander about looking at things on display.

((All bow down to Spiderking, king of luck!  :D))

The disgraced engineer felt himself begin to sweat as he struggled to keep his smile.  "That's right, I'm part of a crew of six freelancers.  You know, that reminds me of a story, Jenson..."

Place the holo-wrist at a fixed location and begin typing furiously on the ship's computers, attempting to whitewash the crew's histories, as I desperately stall the rep for time.

"well, thanks anyway MacHalen. I'll just have to see what I can scrounge up with my buddies for the moment.
Give me a call back if you end up needin help, or find somethin that might be of interest, will ya?"
After they finish talking and have said their goodbyes, he'd continue on to check his contacts in the medical community. Maybe they'll have something. Medical supplies are always in demand after all.

Roll Engineering (+4). Difficulty 5. Result: 10
Roll Starship Design (+2). Difficulty 5. Result:  10
Roll Robotics (+4). Difficulty 5. Result: 10
Roll Computer Skills (+2). Difficulty 5. Result: 7
(No, no, no, no, that's not possible. (Initial 4d10 mistype)).

You peer past the junker, muttering, squinting at particularly small items. The scrap is there for many projects... wires, cables, metal plates, electronic backboards, copper, possibly some gold elements back there... You could probably build all sorts with these things. Computers, robots (maybe not anything too overly impressive, but still) and might even be able to build some neat upgrades for the ship to make it more comfortable or effective.

"You're good to go. The history has been cleaned and given a fake one, so the previous owner won't be attempting to
find it. Enjoy."

((Ah, thanks.  I'll edit the action to just fixing their own histories, if that's possible from the ship's terminal.))

(Gosh, with all these rolls I should be asking this guy for the deed to the shop).

Lets talk pricing here. If I was looking for a few old screen terminals and enough scrap to install them, how much would we be talking? And what do you have in the way of drone parts? I'm looking to construct something small and animated, with a basic AI. I ask the junker.

((Darn thing stopped notifying me.))

Use the materials and parts to repair the most essential parts of the ship in order of criticalness.

((I'm thinking Teal is a better color then Cyan. Cyan rather hard to read on nondarkling.))
