They might have said you were a hero of the arena, the unbeaten champion of the colosseum.
They might have said that you were a great knight, a champion of your faith, protected as much by your armour as by the favour of your god.
They might have said you were a great wizard or witch, the very fabrics of reality bending to your will.
They might have said you were the Red Oni of the Takeda clan, ripping apart Oda soldiers with unmatched fury as your clan made its last glorious charge.
You might have been the last true samurai of the Boshin war, fighting with the honour and courage of a era long past and forgotten in this time of gunpowder.
You might have been a shaman of your people, guiding them with the wisdom of the spirits of nature.
You might have been the luckiest gunslinger in the west, never missing a single shot, always the quickest on the draw.
You might have been a hero at Verdun, charging across the wasteland, bullets miraculously zipping just past you, with your bayonet pointed at the enemy and a yell of pure rage on your lips.

But legends...legends are a weird sort. Though in our reality they are mostly false, tales that got out of hand, the words carry power. And that power often refuses to just dissapear. It lingers in the minds and in the very being of those who live. And sometimes...

Sometimes it gets a life of its own in a different place alltogether.

Hi there, my name is Pancaek. Since my other rtd is starting up well and I managed to not give into the temptation of making it overly large, I feel like I could run a second one on the side. Whereas my other rtd is pretty low on the power scale, in this one we're going to go all out. Players will start out at a heroic level and hopefully only grow in power from there. Fights against single mooks will be trivial, fights with groups of mooks will be pretty spectacular but fairly easy overall. The real challenge will come from enemies who are heroes and villains in their own right. This now world is your oyster, will you be its hero, or its worst nightmare?

Your legend will start anew in the world of Einor. You begin in the kingdom of Amand, a central nation on the continent. It consist of rolling green hills and ancient forests. To the north and east, beyond a dangerous mountain range, lies the expansionist Empire of Brithilien, masters of clockwork magics. To the south are the great deserts. Both the tribes of the silthan and the Mysterious nation of the Edhassan Theocracy make these deserts their home. Finally, to the west is the wilderness of Orthonbar, a harsh and dangerous place. It has not yet been claimed by any one nation, but is home to many settlements of brave pioneers, and people who are running away.

Name: Darius Guile, the undying soldier.

Legend: a soldier of Great renown,  it is said he has never died in battle despite innumerable odds, using everything from his trusty assault rifle to a bunch of twigs to achieve his objective. Ironically, he possesses no extraordinary powers, just decent luck and reflexes. His technology is varied, with his preferred melee weapon being simple shortsword.

-Lucky G.I.: +1 to all dodge/evade/perception rolls
-Reflexes: unless taken completely unaware, you have a much increased chance of moving/attacking first
-The odds are just never in you favor, or are they?: When facing an enemy many times stronger than you, you gain +1 to all rolls for as long as the enemy is focusing on you.
-Professional soldier: Weapons have no more secrets for you. You immediatly know how any weapon works, no matter how foreign it might be, giving you a +1 to attacking with them. Does not include magical enchantments/effects.

Name: Nyaknyak
Legend: Nyaknyak was perhaps the greatest shaman his tribe had ever known - as great, perhaps as the Old Ones, whose names and deeds were known although they had taken place before time began, and before the tribe existed to witness them.

It was said that Nyaknyak (his family name was taken from him when he underwent his naked rite of passage into shamanic adulthood) could change into the form of any animal of the White North. It was rumoured that he could cure any illness and heal any wound with nothing but the herbs of the Great Forest and the force of his spirit. He could see beneath the snow, and read the tracks of mice, and smell the scent of insects. He could call the forces of nature from the sky: fire, wind, lightning.

One of the earliest tales told of when, out searching for a particular herb in the tundric wasteland - on an errand of apprenticeship for his mentor - he was attacked by a polar bear, having accidentally stumbled upon a mother close to her cubs. Bloodied and driven by fear, Nyaknyak slew the polar bear with his hands, and then, overcome with grief at what he had done, he cried on his knees till his tears froze to the ground. He travelled into the polar bear's spirit, and brought the polar back to life. He learnt the importance of calmness, and resoluteness, and he vowed to protect, whatever the cost, what he saw as the balance between the Way, and his tribe, placing both above all else in the world.

When he returned, his mentor beat him for forgetting the herb, and sent him back out to the wasteland; when he returned once more, his mentor set him free, having mastered all he had to teach - it was said. The Nyaknyak left his tribe to learn, spending twelve years wandering the White North, walking with animals; living amongst animals; travelling where the animal spirits travelled.

Indeed, it was even said that Nyaknyak could travel amongst other dimensions - through a spirit world into which he could fade and return.

When he came back to his tribe, he served them selflessly for many years, and helped them, if not thrive, at least do well in the Great Forest. He was a priest, musician, doctor, elder, teacher, warchief... Over the decades, his deeds became numerous; the songs telling of them perhaps more so.

He never died; he just left.

-Healer: you have the knowledge of herbs and healing substances, as well as your innate ability to heal people using your spirit. You also gain +1 when doing so.
-Force of nature: You are able to call upon the wind, fire and lightning to do your bidding, and gain +1 when using these elements.
                  -Blessing of the earthmother: earth and water elements available for magic.
-shapeshifter: You have the ability to change into animal forms. This is so natural to you that it happens nearly instantly.
-Connection with nature, and beyond: You are able to connect with and speak to animals and nature spirits. If you take some time meditating, you can even step into the mystical spirit world

  The Dykan clan was under attack. For centuries they had lived as a peaceful tribe along with the others on the mainland. But recently, the Omadaki clan had started their crusade. They advanced their weaponry, invented new battle tactics. The rest of the tribes were unaware of this, until it was too late. Most of them had grown in an era of peace, never knowing the harsh days of war. When the Omadaki came, they fell quickly, not even a single spear or sword to defend themselves with.

  The Dykan's were different. Long banished memories of battle came back. They crafted longswords, katanas, iron shields, bows and arrows, and many more. They held off the Omadaki for a while. Quickly, they became battle hardened warriors. In such a short time, almost all of them had seen many battles. But while their numbers diminished, the Omadaki grew larger and more powerful. They attacked the Dykan. The Dykan were scattered across the continent, adapting to their environment while hiding from anyone they saw, for fear that they were the Omadaki.

  The Omadaki had finally found this group, after five long years. There was not many of the Dykan, but they grabbed their weapons and readied themselves for a final stand.

  The battle was a slow one. The Dykan had positioned themselves well, making their numbers less of a disadvantage. They had practiced combat almost daily. But the Omadaki were trained for war, some fighting since they were born. Slowly, the line of battle crept closer to the Dykans. They were cornered.

  At last, there was only five Dykan left, three women and two men. A young woman walked up from behind them. None of the Dykan recognized her, but they acknowledged her with a nod. They stood their ground grimly, prepared to take as many Omadaki to the grave with them as they could.

  When the Omadaki reinitiated their attack, the five Dykan beheld a sight only they lived to see.

  Even as the Omadaki charged, they fell. Many meters before they reached the Dykan, Omadaki were dying. Holes appeared in their chests. Some grabbed their heart and died. Screams filled the air. Even more blood colored the already red battlefield.

  The unknown woman's face was covered by a black and blue mask. In her gloved hands she held metal contraptions with holes in the front. If one looked closely, one could see projectiles flying from them.

  Once the Omadaki finally got close, the woman threw the metal objects over her shoulders. They disintegrated into black ash. She reached behind her, and from a scabbard which wasn't there a moment ago, pulled a huge black sword. There were glowing blue lines along the blade, especially the edges of the sword. The five Dykan felt her smile. With a sudden surge of adrenaline and bloodlust, they threw themselves at the Omadaki.

  When it was over, the five Dykan and the woman were still standing. Around them lay the bodies of their enemies, in a pool of blood. None of the five Dykan or the woman were harmed.

  The Dykan asked her name, and were each sworn to secrecy. Each of them led their own nations, and became great. They told this story to their children, and they passed it along. The legend changed each telling, but a single detail remained.

  During the battle, the woman's mask fell off and disintegrated. As she fought, her eyes glowed a magnificent blue.


  Stories like this one are everywhere in history. Some say she fought with a crossbow and knives, others with dual longswords. But all of them agree on one thing - first, her weapons and equipment were bright blue and black.

  Her true name was never told, though each of the survivors in each story knew it. So they call her Y.W. - her initals.

-summon weapons: you can summon weapons at will, formed from a bright blue and black substance. They will disintigrate when not near you or they are discarded. +1 when using these weapons.
-Behind the mask: Your mask and innate powers protect you from mind/perception altering effects.
-Defender: +1 to all rolls when protecting the weak and helping the helpless.
-Magnificent aura: Your aura can inspire allies and demoralize enemies. Allies get bonuses when near you. Weak enemies may even break and flee in fear.

-Cultmaster AkinaroLegend- Cultmaster Akinaro was the head of the Cult of the Arcane (they're not really a cult, just a large (several thousand people) group of mages

-Magnificus Arcana: You are a master of arcane spellcrafting. You can cast all manner of arcane spells and get +1 whenever casting arcane spells.
-Arcana Ritualis: A quick magic missile is all good and well, but sometimes you need to go bigger. You are able to do rituals to increase the power of your normal arcane spells and cast spells with greater effects. These rituals take a varying amount of time, however, so best not to do them when some guy is about to stick a knife in your kidney.
-Enchanter: You can enchant items with temporary effects on the fly. If you take your time and use a ritual, you can even make it permanent.
-Lich: You are somewhere between life and death, in the twilight of existence every great mage aspires to be. You are immune to poisons and dark magic. You're also getting a bit of a skin condition.

Name: Ironscale, The False Dragon
Your legend:
 An assassin of dragons, it was created in a time when the people were terrorized by the dragons of the mountains, massive in number and size. In a last ditch effort to end their constant antagonisation by these flying creatures, the people created an artificial dragon, designed to blend into their kind, and like a virus, kill them off from the inside out. This robotic dragon was kitted out with all the things needed to blend in with its prey, and all the Weapondry necessary to strike these creatures at their weakest. It was then given life, and named Ironscale. It then, with its goal in mind, flew off, to mingle with its prey.
   As it lived with and killed the other dragons, it began to grow smart, and question why it wanted to kill its brothers. Ironscale looks at itself, and saw a dragon, but within, it felt off. Whenever it was alone with its own reflection, it would try to kill its reflection, but afterwards, wonder why. Why does it hate its own kind? Why does it keep killing its own. Why can't it stop. Ironscale tried to act as a true dragon, and suppress its urge to kill, but time and time again, it failed, and it despaired. It was when it killed one of the few elders left that it learned of its origin. Learned from its kill that it was not a true dragon. It was fake, artificial, abominable. It was Ironscale, the False Dragon.
   After its final kill, Ironscale felt the urge to return home. When it did, it was with grief, despair, confusion, and rage. Ironscale reduced the mighty place to a hollow ruin, devoid of any life, and the air was filled with smoke and fumes, the earth burnt and corroded. Ironscale felt nothing but a deep sadness afterwards. It had nothing to call family, nothing to call home. It is a freak, belonging to nothing, and destroying all it touched. At this moment, it lost the will to live. It sleeps in the ruins now, tired and defeated. Ironscale, the False Dragon, now rests in its own grave, never disturbed, for fear of its wrath when awakened.

Right, the opening post might not have been entirely clear on this. The cutoff date for legends is world war 2, early cold war the best. No future stuff. I was also going more for people instead creatures like dragons. That's not to say you'll be human, per se.

Say for example with the oni samurai. Though the oni bit is more of a way to compare his power, he might get reincarnated as an actual oni if the emphasis of the legend is on that bit. I'd really rather you'd all stay relatively humanoid-ish. Dragons are just a no-go, I'm afraid, how the hell am I supposed to balance those.

-edit- if your legendary character uses bows or guns or whatever, don't worry too much about ammo. Real legends never run out of ammo, they just have to reload from time to time.
