Mysterious tavern murders

So my dwarves have built a pretty awesome bar, and the place was getting pretty crowded with humans and dwarves, even the occasional elf or goblin. Everyone was playing nice, even the goblins eventually petitioned my fort for residency. But then I read on here about having to setup a proper meeting area for the tavern keepers to get to work. As soon as I started distributing booze in the place 2 things a happened: The entire bar got covered in puke (!), and someone dies randomly in there once or twice a month for no apparent reason. I'm not counting those who die from complications to the injuries received during bar brawls, these guys don't have a combat log o.O Is everyone else getting this behavior? Its kind of hilarious that the place is so packed all the time when it produces more dead bodies annually than all the sieges on my fort to date XD

Here's a bit more info on said tavern: It's build outside, with the ground floor designated as a bar both through a table and through a meeting area. It usually has 50+ visitors at any given time, mostly humans, and the floor is extremely crowded. Bar brawls are common since I introduced booze, and generally end with someone unconscious and missing a minor appendage, but no immediate death (altho complications from surgery are another story XD ). The problem started as soon as I started serving booze, but seems to have been greatly alleviated since I opened a second, boozeless tavern for residents only. When the dwarf/resident dies, he is just "found dead", always in the tavern, no combat log.

Some of these guys were never near my military or infirmary, so it's unlikely they died from old wounds that finally festered. Since the whole floor is covered in puke and booze it's nearly impossible to tell if he drank himself to death, and since they die I can't check to see if they'd have a reason to drink themselves to death because of carelessness or depression or whatnot. I've considered an assassin being in the tavern, but you'd think someone would see something and report it. Maybe they're getting trampled? There's enough people to justify it and I tend to see a lot more job cancellations due to "unconscious" since I opened the booze flow XD It would also explain why opening a 2nd bar has alleviated the problem.

So what do you guys think? Is this a bug or is it a feature that needs a tooltip? o.O

*edit* One more theory: is it possible they are drowning in pools of ale and puke? :O

If there's no combat reports and the corpse is covered with a pool of vomit, it's probably alcohol poisoning. Alcohol poisoning has claimed three of my dwarves already and a human bard. So far the tavern keeper is the most lethal member of my fort.

It may not be related at all, but the other day in adventure mode I entered a Lord's Keep that had a lot of different races standing around in it, a Chieftess just walked up and murdered someone with a single blow. No one reacted at all.

Like I said, it may not be related in any way but it was also a crowded racially diverse room. :shrug:

When I opened my second bar, I assigned it one of my tavern keepers even tho I'm not serving booze there. I wonder if having 2 tavern keepers in the main bar caused too much booze to get delivered :/

I was going to suggest a Vampire, but it doesn't quite fit. There should be witnesses ec.

Speaking of, with the abundance of visitors I haven't yet seen a report of a vampire feeding in a tavern, which is a surprise.

It *should* theoretically trigger the crime / punishment mechanic, with a hammering.
Has anyone seen this in their fort.

I don't know why they die, but I too had an instance where a dwarf and a goblin-visitor just started punching each other, but stopped after a few hits. I assume just drunk brawling. A short while after the goblin died because he got damage to the lung.

As for the puke: If you build the tavern outside, all the dwarfs are probably just being irritated by the sun.

Can't be a vampire, cuz then they'd be found dead and drained of blood. I don't think all my Dwarves are puking due to the sun, my fortress is designed to prevent cave adaptation and the tavern is 6 stories tall so I definitely have a roof over the ground floor bar. PDF Urist master is most likely right. Perhaps future updates could add a new "found dead" messages that clarifies alcohol poisoning? I've played another in game year since my OP without any incident, so I'm feeling pretty confident the problem was having multiple tavern keepers assigned to the same tavern. I'm still getting non-lethal bar fights all kinds of course but that's fine, adds a lot of flavor to the game :D

The same happened to my first Tavern Keeper. Suddenly puke, followed closely by death. I noticed that he was "Winded" when he was down on the floor. Moments before his death he was covered in puke so maybe that affects breathing when it covers his nose or mouth? At least that's what i like to imagine happened to my Tavern Keeper.

My tavern keeper also died to alcohol poisoning.

I had a human swordsman visitor end up dead in my tavern. I didn't find any puke, but then again I didn't notice until there was miasma floating around.

I'm sure that some fastidious dwarf came and cleaned up all that nasty puke, just probably missed the dead body.

Aren't corpses auto-forbid by default?

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

I had a rather tragic incident of a dwarf being flung across the floor, splitting his lower body open, slamming into an obstacle and being found dead. Simultaneously a carpenter was flung past a number of dancers and slammed into the booze stockpile. I suspect a visitor got into a shoving match and, being some oversized humanoid animal (I've been getting dingo men), won. This occured with a rather crowded and small tavern, only 7x11 or so with 50 dwarves burrow-restricted into it.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the culprit here is alcohol poisoning all the time. Sounds more like tavern brawls that are ending lethally. Maybe there's a bug where combat reports aren't made properly?
