Ocean Drain

At last we can drain the ocean and build a fort off the coast. I just thought you all should know how.

I tried this before and it lagged BAD (like, 1 - 2 fps). Was it like that for you?

It went do to lower then that for a few seconds after the connection was made but went back up to about 5-6 for me. If you place a flood gate in the way then you could sever the connection when ever you want. Drain some of the ocean. Build walls. Refill the ocean.

Build walls at 5 - 6 fps? I can hardly tolerate playing at 30  :(

It would work, I guess, but you have to be more patient then I am!

The other problem I had, now that I think about it, was dwarves trying to cut across the part that still had water in it and spamming dangerous terrain messages (or even getting washed into the flow and drowning). Something to watch out for if you try alot of construction down there.
