The weredwarf Urist McUrist has come! A bearded drunkard twisted into minute form. It is crazed for booze and socks. Its unwashed beard is tangled. It needs alcohol to get through the working day and has gone without a drink for far too long. Now you will know why you fear the mines.

Et tu, Urist

Books shown in my fort..

Musings on The Hamlet
The Hamlet: Further Musings
The Hamlet in Practice
..
Horror and the Grooved Shell
..
Time Spent With The Village
Concerning The Village
..
The Farm Uncovered
Choose The Farm
An Offering To The Farm
..
The Journey Into The Elf (how is that not erotic fiction?)
The Elf: A Quandary

The Journey Into The Elf is.. well, ok, I guess maybe it IS erotic fiction.. " The written portion consists of a 25 page essay entitled The Journey into the Elf, authored by Lini Gladeseals.  It concerns the apprenticeship of the elf Lini Gladeseals under the elf Fidale Judgegrotte in the early summer of 184.  The writing is quite self-indulgent.  Overall, the prose is amateurish at best "

Sounds like a rip-off of 50 Shades of Gabbro to me. ;)

The first work produced in my fortress is by a visiting scholar. It is apparently some kind of whiny blog-post about rejection and not being very good at your job.

The way I read that, it's about the time he denied an apprenticeship to someone. Can you imagine what reading that would be like for the poor sap? :D

A random selection of books sitting in my current fort's library:

Can Sundials Save The World?
Pulleys For Everyone
True Hardness
Time Spent With Breathing
Glue
Glue: Further Musings
I, for one, am very excited for the new upcoming Glue book

Amen, I am still kind of bummed because Glue: The Movie really disappointed me, it wasn't as good as the books.

Erotic autobiography! Wonder if Fidale consented to this. Got any dorfs studying libel law in your fort? Could make a killing.

They said the walls were impregnable. You didn't have to prove me wrong by giving birth on them.

In my 10,000 year test world, they developed both astronomical theories.  The first of the sun revolving around the earth, and the second of the earth revolving around the sun.  Kind of interesting, I thought.

Of course, proposing a heliocentric system and proving one are two very different things. The idea of the Earth orbiting the Sun was proposed at least as early as ancient Greece, but it took Copernicus and Galileo to convince everyone.

from what ive seen there seems to be a gradual but steady discovery of new things, probably slightly random.
